My colleagues and I are writing today to request that your department address a section of state roadway where a recent tragedy has occurred. Specifically, we urge that proactive measures be implemented to remedy any deficiencies upon an all too frequently dangerous segment of the Bronx River Parkway. The news of Sundays horrific accident has spread throughout New York. The truly tragic story of a vehicle, filled with three generations of a family falling nearly six stories, has captivated New Yorkers and has brought attention to a deadly stretch of road under your purview. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this segment of road has been the epicenter of tragedy. Following the initial shock of the accident, media outlets have reported accounts of similar accidents near the 177th St. exit. Additionally, your agency, in the recent past, has listed this segment of highway as exhibiting severe safety needs. Sundays accident and the tragic results have once again highlighted the unsafe conditions for one of New Yorks roadways. We believe that every effort should be taken to eliminate further catastrophes and urge New York State Department of Transportations hastened response.
