Position: Academic Counselor

Responsibilities: The University of Louisiana at Lafayette seeks applications for the position of Academic Counselor in the Student-Athlete Academic Center. Reporting to the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Academics, the Academic Counselor will: Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes Assist with the academic, social, and career development of student-athletes in cooperation with other University support services Counsel student-athletes in academic transition such as declaring or changing majors, withdrawing courses, etc. Communicate students academic progress to coaches and athletics administration Teach student-athlete transition seminars Develop and conduct educational and life skills programs that support the educational experience and retention of student-athletes Serve as a liaison to academic departments Work flexible schedules, must be able to work early morning and late evening hours and weekends

Qualifications: Masters Degree from a regionally accredited institution. Preferred qualification is three-five years of experience advising and counseling student-athletes in a Division I athletic support program for studentathletes. The successful applicant should possess knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills when working with student-athletes, faculty, coaches, administrators, and diverse student populations. Successful candidate must work cooperatively with faculty and administrative personnel, remain calm under pressure, and adapt quickly to change. Administrative Unit: The Student-Athlete Academic Center is a unit that reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
