Notes: Obesity is increasing. Between 16 and 33% of adolescents are obese. Extra pounds do not mean a person is obese but it may lead to it. Mostly begins between the ages of 5 and 6. Obesity is biological, genetic, behavioral and cultural.

Obesity is when you consume more calories than the body can consume. As you get older your bodies abilities to metabolize food slows down. Women are more overweight than men. Active i9ndividuals need more calories than non active. Obesity is not having too much body fat. A person may be overweight from too much water, muscles, bone, and too much fat. The way we eat as children affect how we will eat when we are adults. More people today work desk jobs than before.

When obese the weight that is usually lost is quickly regained. More than 95% of obese people have this. More needs to be learned on the causes of obesity. The treatment for obesity is a lifelong process. Obesity can reduce blood pressure, blood levels and cholesterol.

It has been estimated that by 2030 42% of Americans will be obese. Duke University says that by 2030 11% of the people will be severely obese. This issue raises diabetes, health problems, heart disease, and adds to the health care bill.
