Students Benefit from Advanced Curriculum at Bronx High School of Science By Theodore H.

Friedman, Attorney Established in 1938, the Bronx High School of Science continues to inspire high school students from New York City to excel in academics and good works. Dedicat ed to nurturing the education and character of its students, the institution tak es its cue from its founding principal, Dr. Morris Meister. Dr. Meister develope d programs that encourage students to be curious, accept responsibility, help th eir fellow students and members of the community, and remain optimistic througho ut times of triumph and adversity. The school s colors, green and gold, represent the chlorophyll and the sun. The chem ical substance chlorophyll enables plants to convert sunlight to energy, while t he sun fuels many of the reactions necessary to life on Earth. The school colors also signify light and transparency, two elements that are often associated wit h education. The current facilities for the Bronx High School of Science maintain the commitm ent to state-of-the-art equipment and stellar facilities first adopted at the ti me of the school s founding. While the initial enrollment of the institution compris ed approximately 400 boys, the current student population encompasses a diverse group of 2,900 boys and girls who gained admittance via a strenuous examination process. About the Author: Theodore H. Friedman gained admission to the Bronx High School of Science and earned a scholarship to the University of Michigan, where he ear ned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with honors. Harvard Law School awarded Theo dore H. Friedman the James Ames Scholarship, and he completed his law degree in 1956.
