How can you determine if two lines are perpendicular?

You know if 2 equations are perpendicular if their slopes are the negative reciprocals of each other, such as 2 and -1/2. Whatever the y intercept is does not matter; only the slope matters. In order to compare the slopes, you need to have the equations in the form of y = mx+b so you can compare thems or the slopes of each equations.
