Creativity

If there was ever a perfect environment to expose students to creativity, it is definitely the classroom. In the classroom, students have to opportunity to be themselves and express their multiple skills into whichever form is permitted. It is a teachers task to provide them with these opportunities. When it comes to creativity, I dedicated my Poetry and Figurative Language TU to it. In the TU mentioned above, students were able to write their own poems, create a poetry book and use figurative language in the construction of these. I provided them with the necessary tools to accomplish the tasks. Students were very receptive and it was generally accepted well. According to assessments, it was actually their favorite TU. I also provided for creativity in a majority of the classroom daily activities. I wanted students to be aware of their potential and to expose it and not be afraid.

Students maximized creativity when writing their own stories, creating a timeline, preparing their presentations, and other such activities. They also responded very well to these activities in general.

A teacher who says that there is not opportunity for creativity is lying; a teacher who does not believe that students are constantly exposed to creativity should not be called a teacher at all. Out of all four core values it is the most common and students are constantly being exposed to it in all areas of life. Because of this exposure, we have to use it to our advantage. What could very well work is the implementation/exposure of the other three core values (diversity, leadership, and social transformation) through creativity. This is a technique that all teachers should adapt and take to heart.

When it comes to creativity, I feel like I have effectively transmitted the value to my students. I know for a fact that when they are not provided with an opportunity to be creative, they immediately complain. This is why teachers should take advantage of it. Students are rarely eager about learning; if provided with a creative environment, you accomplish two things, the implementation of a core value and the actual appreciation of learning experiences.
