Hayden Kho-Katrina Halili scandal

The entire Entertainment world and the Medical community were alarmed when the scandalous video of Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili set the online networks on frenzy. Both are known public figures making it a big issue. Katrina Halili sued Hayden Kho for taking a video without her consent. She accused him of violating the Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence against Women and Children Act. Hayden Kho, in defense of himself, pleaded not guilty and pointed his friend, Eric Chua, as the mastermind. The Court dismissed the case due to its lack of sufficient proof. Though the civil case was dismissed, it doesnt make Hayden Kho less liable of what he did. The PRC and PMA revoked his professional license August last year. "The Commission believes that his actuation is immoral, dishonorable and unethical," the PRC office said, in its statement sent by Marian Layug, PRC's Public Information and Media Relations Unit spokesperson. (http://www.keywordspeak.com/2011/08/hayden-khos-medical-licenserevoked-by.html) Our group concur with the decision of the PRC. As a medical professional, he is expected to act responsibly, not only within his clinic or in the hospital or during duty, but anywhere and every time. According to the PMA Code of Ethics Article 1 Section 5, Physicians should cooperate with and safeguard the interest, reputation, and dignity of paramedical and other health professionals.

A physician does not only concern himself of his own reputation. The whole medical society will also get a negative feedback once a physician has conducted himself contrary to the ethical values set by the Code. Being a physician, we should gain the trust of the public as it will be detrimental to our practice. And we will only achieve it if we have proven that we are dignified and has a good reputation. One dire move could affect the whole medical community. It may sound unjust but we carry in our title the character of a good physician and the reputation of the medical society depends on each of us.
