INTRODUCTION

Headache is a one of the most common


complaint in both adolescent and adults.

Prevalence of headache varies with age. It is


rare in children but increase frequency in women (adolescents) due to hormonal modulation.
DEFINATION Headache means all aches and pains localized

to the region of head. It is a common symptoms of a variety of both benign and malignant condition. In most circumstances it benign either due to tension or fatigue and is reversible.
A detailed clinical history regarding its quality,

intensity, location, duration, time course and

conditions which exacerbate or relieve it is necessary to come to correct conclusion and to avoid unnecessary investigation.
CLASSIFICATION OF HEADACHE

(International Headache society) 1)Migraine (classical common, opthalmoplegic and basilarartery. 2)Tension type headache :a) Episodic b) Chronic

3)Cluster headache and chronic hemicrania.

4) Miscellaneous headache not associated with structural lesion. a.)Cold stimulus b.)Idiopathic c.)Sexual activity d.)Cough headache

5) Traumatic headache 6) Headache associated with vascular disorder A) CVA B) INTRACRANIAL HAEMORRHAGE ( Hematoma) C) ARTERITIS D) VENOUS SINUS THROMBOSIS E) OTHER VASCULAR DISORDER

7) Headache associated with nonvascular intracranial disease. e.g:a) High or low CSF pressure b) Intracranial infection. 8) Headache associated with substance abuse or their withdrawl. 9) Headache associated with systemic infection e.g:- Bacterial or viral

10) Headache associated with metabolic diseases e.g:- Hypoxia, Hypercepnia, Hypoglycemia, Dialysis etc.

11) Headache due to referred pain e.g:- Disorders of eyes, ear, nose & sinuses, teeth, jaw & TMJ 12) Cranial neuralgia e.g:- Trigeminal glossopharyngeal or occipital neuralgia 13) Unclassified headache.
