HOW ARE ENZYMES REGULATED?

Feedback control

Is an enzyme regulation process in which formation of a product inhibits an earlier reaction in the sequence.

PROENZYMES

Or zymogens

any of a group of proteins that display no catalytic activity but are transformed within an organism into enzymes, especially those that catalyze reactions involving the breakdown of proteins. To make them active, a small part of their polypeptide chain must be removed. (sa notes lng to di to ksli sa ppt :))

Allosterism

A change in the activity and conformation of an enzyme resulting from the binding of a compound at a site on the enzyme other than the active binding site.

Allosteric enzyme

Two ways:

Negative modulation

Positive modulation

Regulator- substance that binds to the allosteric enzyme. Regulatory site- the site in which regulator attaches.

Protein Modification

The modification is usually a change in the primary structure

Isoenzymes

are proteins with different structure which catalyze the same reaction.
