Hook- Advertisements today have influenced the way we live, the decisions we make, and the way we purchase

our products. Thesis- Advertising can be effective and powerful in promoting different causes and beneficial products, but at the same time can be viewed as negative for forcing ideals upon its audience. Paragraph 1 Topic- Advertisement has always had a good purpose through getting its message out to people. Concrete- Many people rely on advertisement to inform them of different events (Source A), new products, and allows for better competition. Commentary- Advertisement in a way informs people of better and more competitive products. It allows the consumer to make better purchases, and be informed of different events such as the blood drive. Concrete- Also, advertisement is a potent example of advertistings enormous power and economic value (Source B), and is a most basic form (of) teaching. (Source C). Commentary- This allows people to become better informed about the positives of a product, as well as some of the negatives of a rival product. This product can range from a particular brand of toilet paper to a political candidate. Closing- There is also a negative side to the effects of advertising. Paragraph 2 Topic- Advertisement is sometimes portrayed in a negative sense. Concrete- According to Source D, advertisement, can reinforce racial, cultural, and sexual stereotypes. It can make us unsatisfied with who we are, greedy for what we dont have, and oblivious to the miseries of millions who havent a fraction of the comforts we take for granted. Commentary- For example, smoking commercials and the way they are portrayed are aimed at much younger crowds, and the effects of this advertisement is bad for the health of our young adults. And many times after seeing a commercial, we are interested in purchasing non-essential items, just to conform or feel comfort in what we want. Concrete- Many companies are in the desire for profit and the appeal for a health economy has led many companies and goverments to put aside the necessary moral responsibilities in the age of the global market. (Source F). Commentary- A lot of todays markets will do anything to make quick money. The use of false advertising, and claiming different things about their products that were never proven, are a perfect example of this situation.
