I think my mask deserves a: 100 because: as stated in the rubric, it fulfills all points of grading.

My mask is on time, and in the classroom the day it was due, which satisfies the first 20% of my grade. My mask is two times the size of a human head, as stated on the rubric, which therein earns me the second 20% of my grade (a total of 40%). I did think of an original way to represent the character Antigone, by giving her long blonde hair, and a crown since she is a princess, which satisfies the third 20% of the rubric (now a total of 60%). My mask is three dimensional, constructed solidly of layers, and amply decorated with $24.39 of my own money (now a total of 80%). My mask is attractive as a work of art in that it is aesthetically appealing, although it does not demonstrate in the slightest any understanding of my character of Antigone. From this project I was able to research and learn the fact that she was often represented with blonde hair and was a princess (now a total of 100%). I could have produced a better mask if I had access to an art studio with ample space to construct a show quality mask. It would have also helped if I had been provided a set of instructions with a special tips list included. The special tips I would have included: Before you go to the craft store make sure you have several of the following items on hand: Old tablecloths or sheets to cover a table or work space to protect chairs and rugs, scissors, newspaper, pie tin, paint, staples, glue, construction paper, tissue paper and tape. Plan on taking at least one trip to the craft store to purchase art supplies. Some of the following items are required and some are optional. The grading rubric is highly subjective so in order to ensure that your mask is graded fairly the mask must look like a lot of time, care, and attention were paid in its creation. Because effort is a hard thing to show without props, please ensure that your mask looks decorated. o Balloons o Paint o Crown o Hair o Paint brushes o Glue (at least 3 large bottles) o Construction paper For further tips please log on to website: _____________________ and for specific instructions about how to successfully complete paper mache projects. Find a large space to work in that wont be needed by your family for several days. Cover everything in the workspace to prevent damage to tables and rugs. Cut all newspaper strips ahead of time in both long and short strips, and separate into groups to help streamline the process.

I love my mask because: I appreciate anything I put 12 plus hours of effort into however; I do not love my mask. I cannot say that I have any affection for an inanimate

object because I associate loving with animate objects such as my family, my pets, my friends and God.
The definition of aesthetic: [es-thet-ik or, especially Brit., ees-] Show IPA adjective 1. pertaining to a sense of the beautiful or to the science of aesthetics. 2. having a sense of the beautiful; characterized by a love of beauty. 3. pertaining to, involving, or concerned with pure emotion and sensation as opposed to pure intellectuality. noun 4. a philosophical theory or idea of what is aesthetically valid at a given time and place: the clean lines, bare surfaces, and sense of space that bespeak the machine-age aesthetic.(http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/aesthetic).

I dont think that this project could fairly be graded simply on one persons aesthetic appeal. Aesthetics vary depending on personality and person based on where, when and how a child is raised. Thus, my aesthetic could very well be on the complete opposite spectrum as the person looking at the mask; this makes aesthetic an opinion, rather than a measurement.
