Abstract Equilibria in liquid_ liquid extraction are conventionally represented on triangular diagram, either equilateral or right angled.

Equivalent representation on rectangular coordinates are also used. Equilibria between any number of components can also be represented in terms of activity coeffecient correlations such as the UNIQAC or the NRTL. These correlations involve parameters which are erivable from measurements on binary mixtures, but in practice the resulting accuracy is considered to be poor. Out of the fact that the graphical representation of trenary systems are diffcult, time consuming and can not be directly introduced into the computer for stage _ to _ stage concentration profiles, and the fact that the models based on the activity coefficients (UNIQAC, NRTL) give poor results, othmer-tobias, Ishida and hand models which were bsed on compositions in the extract and raffinates phases are seemed to be rather promissing. The aim of this study is to compare the accuracy of these models against the experimental data. Msny system were illustrated and it is concluded that Ishida model is the most accurate and that it represents the experimental data with the minimum deviation. It is recommended that Ishida model can be used to predict liquid_liquid equilibria and can safety be used

for design, stage_to_stage concentration profiles, measured and manipulated variables in control system design. A data bank of the equilibrium correlations of the important systems have been made.
