To describe the basic working of the heart To describe the arterial supply and venous drainage of the head and neck

Valves
To prevent backflow, allowing movement blood one way: atria to ventricles, and into the artery from the ventricles Between atria and ventricles Rt AV valve = tricuspid Lft AV valve = bicuspid or mitral Pulmonary and aortic semilunar valves = tricuspid

Arteries carry oxygenated blood AWAY from the heart; are elastic to allow for the systolic pressure Veins carry de-oxygenated blood BACK to the heart
