When choosing my three different radio station names I wanted to try and choose three that hadwere different genres and would have different logos. I decided to choose Mixx, Pulse and VIP. Each radio station I felt was not too different but it was unique enough that they would have their own type of music and therefore their own logo. I was also thinking about the colours I thought of when I said the name, for each radio stations I got similar colours in my head. The genre for Mixx I thought of was hip-hop, I got this because DJs Mixx records in clubs and hip-hop music is played at clubs. It made me think of dancing and bright colours in clubs on the weekend with those aged over 18. But I would also think about those under 18 who want to be older and listen to this type of music. I think its the new hip-hop and is dance music, which means everyone can get up and try to dance even if they are no good. It makes people want to have a good time. The genre for VIP would be old hiphop but more pop. I think of this as with VIP I think of backstage passes and how a few years ago VIP backstage passes were a hit and everyone wanted to go backstage to and meet the pop stars. This again made me think of bright colours and having the party atmosphere but a little more grown up, so they wont be out clubbing and dancing about. The genre for Pulse was similar to these but I think it was a little more techno based. I think of a pulse monitor when thinking of Pulse, which reminded me of techno music. I think this type of music would be played in clubs with lasers and bright flashing lights shinning everywhere. Again I thought of the vibrant coloursbright colours flashing round which made it similar to the other but different. The target audience for Mixx would range between 17-26. I think those 18-25 would like to listen and dance to it in clubs but those 17 and 26 would listen to it to either be older or younger. They may not like it as much as the 18-25 bunch but they will still like to listen. It is a Mixx between male and female audience that likes to dance and have good nights out on the weekend. The target audience for VIP would range between 25-35, they like to listen to the music with friends and like to go to gigs. They are not one for clubbing but do like to dance to the music when that at the gigs. They will spend money to get back stage to see the stars; there would also be slightly more men then women but they like the music just the same. The target audience for Pulse would be 18-25 and they would like the old school music. More in to the techno then any other type. Like to go to clubs and raves in bright clothes. Would like to where glow in the dark coloured paint and have glow sticks to help them enjoy the night and get into the mood. I want my target audiences to be able to remember the logo easily and to be able to see it and know the channel. I also wanted them to see the logo and be reminded of the music that the station plays. I wanted it to be bright and colourful like the clubs, gigs and raves that play are music would be. The colours I chose are bright and will help the audience remember the music. I used the same colours for each logo because they are bright and colourful and they match the type of genres I have chosen. I also wanted he audience to know that Ow Music owns all the logos so I tried to make them look like a family by using the same colours.

Comment [11]: Quite fluent, but could be better because its also confusing especially the first time round I read it When it comes to choosing my three radio station names, I wanted to come up with something that were similar but different in genres and the overview of my logos

Comment [12]: Good comparison of different genres.

Comment [13]: Quite repetitive with the words bright colours

I think my competition with other radio stations lies with kiss for Mixx as they play similar music and have a similar target audience. They also have an easy to remember logo, however their logo isnt as bright and as colourful as mine. It also dont match the club atmosphere which I have tried to but in to my logo. The competition for VIP would by with Capital FM, I think these would be the biggest competitors because they will play similar music and have around the same age for their target audience. I also think they aim at males and females which is the same as VIP. There has some colour but it isnt as colourful as mine. I also think my radio station will be more in to hip/hop and older music where as capital play some of the new songs out as well. I think the biggest competitor for Pulse would be Techno FM. They will play the same music as me but I think Pulse will play slightly newer techno songs where Techno FM play older and some newer but not the newest techno songs out. This isnt the worlds most famous radio station as techno would only appeal to some but I am trying to push my radio station a bit further and try to make it a house hold name I will try to get people into the genre or if not to at least listen to techno once. I wanted my Mixx logo to be bright and colourful. This is so that the audience will remember it but also when they are getting ready to go out they will see bright colours from their clothes, this will remind them of the station which will make them put it on and listen to it as they get ready. I wanted it to be both for male and females so I sent for colours that arent seen as girl or colours that are seen as manly colours. I wanted my VIP logo to show the audience what type of music is played. I thought about the backstage passes and how a few years ago my target audiences were behind the scenes with the pop stars. I wanted them to be able to remember these memories from looking at my logo. I wanted to show it is for both for males and females. And when thinking of VIP I thought of royalty, which then made me think of crowns. I wanted my Pulse logo to shout out to the audience. I wanted them to be able to tell what type of music it plays. I also want the look to get new audiences to listen to the music, and to see if they like the genre of music, which is techno. I also want it to stand out with the colours so when the audiences are out listening to the music and are in clubs, gigs and raves they will think of the station if they see the colours I have used. When creating my Mixx logo I started by writing Mixx using the text tool. I used the default text setting, which was Cambria. I then used the character and paragraph tool to edit the text. I changed the text type three or four times without finding a successful text that I liked. I decided to delete the text by clicking and dragging the layer to the trash bin. I thought about writing the text out using lines, to do this I used the line tool. I used an orange for the first lines and then drew

a red line around them. I did this, as these were the colours I had chosen from my drafts. I wanted to add in paint drops, I wanted to do this because when thinking of Mixx I thought of mixing paint. I tried using the brush tool to do this but couldnt see a paint drop. I found a drop on www.brusheezy.com, which allows me to put it in to Photoshop. I added in all of the paint drops and used the paint bucket to colour them. When choosing the colours I was thinking about what would attract my target audience. Once the drops had all been done, I wanted to get feed back from the target audience. I was told that it might look better with a background colour. I created a new layer and added in a black background using the paint bucket again. This made the colours I had chose standout to the audience and it catches their eye, which makes it easy to remember. There was a white box around all of the paint drops so I used the magic wand tool to remove it. Looking at the logo, I wasnt sure if it was working so I went back to my audience and go more feedback. This time they said that the logo was too dark and it would look better without a background, I removed the background layer leaving my first logo.

I moved on to my next logo, which was VIP. I added in text to a new canvas. I used tekton pro. I decided to not se this text and changed it by using the paragraph and character tool. I changed it to sathu, which I felt was the right text for the logo. I thought about what would look good on the logo but was relatable to the name of it. I use the custom shape tool to add in two crowns, I did this because it made it easy to remember and it would suit the radio station, which would appeal to the audience. I used the paint bucket tool to fill in the shapes. I kept the colours similar to the Mixx logo because I remember that the logos had to be a family and that they had to have something similar, I chose to keep the colours the same, which would give it a strong family bond. I created a back stage pass using the line and shape tool, I then moved this so it looked like it was handing off the

text. I created new text to add in to the backstage pass to make it seem realistic. I then received feedback and again they wanted to see a logo, I added a new layer and tried several colours, the black logo made the logo stand out the most, but the audience didnt like it as it didnt appeal to them. I removed the background from the logo and got feedback one last time from my target audience, they liked the logo saying that it appealed to them.

My final logo to create was Pulse. I made this one similar to my Mixx logo as I created the text using the line tool. This time I used red lines to create the logo. I added a drop shadow to the lines to give it some detail and make it a little more creative. I then added lines in the shape of a heart monitor, I did this because of the name of the station and it fitted with the target audience. I did this in three different colours but kept them the same as my other logos so it stayed in the family. I got feedback from my target audience and they didnt like the logo. They liked the heart monitor idea but they didnt like the lines making the text. They said it should be a 3D look, which would suit it. I went on to www.Dafont.com and looked for 3D text. There was one suitable text so I put it into Photoshop. I used the text tool to create the text using the font Cul-De-Sac I then edited the text using the paragraph ad character tool. I tried many different combinations of colour and backgrounds. The audience gave me feedback and didnt like the text, so I tried again and I used the Sathu font. I used the drop shadow effect tool; this allowed me to create a 3D look on the text, which the audience liked. I changed the colour and position of the drop shadow to orange and made it seem 3D. I then added in the hear monitor again and the text had changed, I did it in the same colours because the audience liked it from the previous attempt of the logo. Again the feedback saw me adding in a background, which again didnt work well.

I am most happy with how I have got the logos to look similar. I wanted to have a strong connection between the logos but I also wanted them to have their identity. Each logo had the same colours, which makes it clear to anyone that they all belong to OW Music. Although the colours were the same each logo had its own look, which represented that station and the type of music played by the radio station. Also I think each logo appeals to the target audience it is meant to. I used the pipette tool to get the same colours into each logo, this helped me because it was easy to do this then to have to try and match up he colours by look. I received a lot of feedback throughout the making of my logos. My target audience kept telling me things that they liked and didnt like, I tried to please all of my target audience and kept the liked stuff and removed the not liked stuff. When I got feed back on the final logos they told me that they liked them and that they could tell the type of music it plays. They liked the Pulse logo because of the heart monitor idea, they said this was a good idea because it is technology and fits with the music genre of techno. They liked the Mixx logo because the colours and the font told them it was hop/hop clubbing music. With the VIP logo the audience liked the crowns and said it was a good idea, they also got the idea of behind the scenes at gigs and raves because of the back stage pass on the logo.

When creating the logos I feel like my Photoshop skills have improved a lot. I hadnt used Photoshop properly before and using it to create the logos I had to use a lot of tools that I never new you could do on Photoshop. It has made me think differently of Photoshop because of the different tools you can use. I developed all my Photoshop skills, as now I know what each tool does and how to use it to a high standard. I have used skills like the text and the line tool. I used both of these skills; I first used the text but then used the line tool to create text. I thought this is a good idea because it would make my logo unique and make it stand out from other logos. I also learned how to use the magic wand tool. Before I knew how to use this I would use the pen tool to cut out an image from its background, but now I know that the magic wand tool is much quicker and it is more efficient.

When creating my logos I wanted to make sure they were to a high standard and near professional. To do this I looked at some other radio station logos, which play similar music to mine. When looking at them they were all easy to remember and they didnt over complicate their logos. My logos have more colours in them then other professional logos. I wanted to do this because it will make my logos standout from others and make my target audience remember my logos. My Pulse logo has a techno feel to it, and a similar logo to this station is techno fm. This logo has a techno feel to it as well.

I felt that I could have a background colour or pictures to add to my logos. At the moment I have white backgrounds for each logo. During the making of my logos I was told to add in a background colour, after selecting a few colours the target audience fed back telling me that the colours didnt work. I took away the backgrounds keeping the white. I fell that if I had more time I could have played with more colours and maybe some pictures to place in the background. I think my Mixx logo could be a little more complicated. I tried to keep my ideas simple so the audience would remember them, but in doing this some maybe a little to simple and could have been more complicated.
