Objectives: To provide sound knowledge in the analysis of advanced control systems. Level of the course: Understanding &Application Level Prerequisite:NIL MODULE I (12 hours) Digital Control systems-review of analysis using ztransform- Shannons sampling theorem-Nyquist frequency- hold circuits and data reconstruction- pulse transfer functions Block diagram for discrete time systems- state variables description of discrete time systems- Conversion of transfer function to state space model-Controllability and Observability State feedback design-stability using Jurys test and Lyapunov.s method MODULE II (10 hours) Non-linear Systems - Characteristics- Phase plane analysis . linearization and stability of equilibrium points-Lyapunovs First method- Isocline and Delta method- limit cycles of phase plane- stability of limit cycles . Bendixson.s criteria-Computer based analysis and simulation. Concepts of Inverse Control-Feedback linearization-Model predictive control MODULE III (10 hours) Describing function methods and stability of non-linear systems, Harmonic linearisationDescribing functions- Filter hypothesis- describing function for single valued and double valued non-linear elements - Limit cycles amplitude and frequency -Stability of non-linear systems . Lyapunov.s method for non-linear systems . Popov.s criterion. MODULE IV (10 hours) Computer Control of Industrial Processes-Control hierarchies for plant level automationMicroprocessor/microcontroller/DSP based control-Programmable Logic controllersIntroduction to PLC Programming-PC based control-Distributed Control Systems-Control Networks-Protocols-Ethernet-Field Bus-Man-Machine Interface.
