Privette (prih-vet) showing evidence bags containing methamphetamine (meth-am-fet-a-mean), shot at Baltimore DEA headquarters. In the last year there has been a spike in methamphetamine (metham-fet-a-mean) related arrests in the Baltimore and College Park areas. Otto Privette (prih-vet), the Maryland Regional Director of the Drug Enforcement Administration, says police have already made 10 meth-related arrests this year. Only three were made overall last year. Privette (prih-vet) predicts 10 more arrests for the year. Its a good bet well make some more arrests because weve got three investigators running down leads full-time. In a way its discouraging because theres so much of the drug around, but I think were making some headway on the problem. Lynne Harris, a juvenile counselor, says police are arresting many teenagers on methamphetamine (meth-am-fet-a-mean) related offenses. Teenagers are drawn to the drug because of its relatively cheap price, and long lasting effects. Methamphetamines (meth-amfet-a-means) are known to increase activity, decrease appetite and enhance the sensation of euphoria. Its effects can last up to 12 hours. The police testing lab in Baltimore, which determines the chemical makeup of confiscated drugs and material A lot of the methamphetamine weve been seeing has impurities in it. Now the drugs dangerous enough as it is because it can really unhinge people who are already emotionally unstable. But once you add something like strychnine, you can wind up with some pretty toxic stuff. So its doubly dangerous.
