APPEARANCE TEST The surface of the pipe shall be cleaned with a clean piece of cloth and checked with the naked eye to make sure that it is uniform and having smooth internal surface and edges. It shall be free from visible defects and cracks, which affect the pipe’s efficiency of performance. 3+ DIMENSIONS MEASUREMENT 3.1 Length 3.1.1 Suitable length measuring instrument with an accuracy of 1 mm shall be used. 3.1.2 The actual length of the pipe (straight length) from inside shall be measured at three different locations of the cross-section of the pipe and at approximately equal distances (one third of the circumference) as shown in Fig. (1), and the mean value of the three readings taken. 3.2 Diameter 3.2.1 Suitable length measuring instrument with an accuracy of 0.5 mm shall be used. 3.2.2 The inside diameter of the pipe shall be measured at the two ends of the straight part, with two ‘measurements at right angles taken at each end. The mean value of the measurements shall be considered as the inside diameter of the pipe. 3.3. Thickness 3.3.1 The thickness shall be measured to the nearest 0.5 mm at several locations on the pipe circumference. The maximum and minimum values shall be taken and the difference between them calculated. 4. STRAIGHTNESS TEST 4 Apparatus 4.1.1 Steel straight edge, the length of which is 0.8 from the actual length of the pipe.
