1.Overview of the examination


1.1 Framework of the examination system
The Fundamental Information Technology Engineer Examination is designed to evaluate the basic and general knowledge of information technology (IT) possessed by individuals involved in a wide range of information system-related activities such as development, operation and application.

1.2 Required abilities of applicants


Functions and work types Fundamental information technology engineers take part in the design and development of programs based on internal specifications in information system development projects, and serve the following functions: (1)As system development project members, they contribute by utilizing their basic knowledge of information technology; (2)Produce program design sheets based on given internal design specifications under the guidance of higher ranking engineers; (3)Produce programs based on the knowledge of standard algorithms and data structures; and (4)Test produced programs. Fundamental information technology engineers are required to design and develop information system development programs by utilizing fundamental knowledge of information technology, and to have the knowledge and skills enumerated below. It is further understood that they will seek to become highly capable engineers in the future. (1)Understanding of basic technical terms and definitions related to information technology; (2)Ability to produce program design sheets under the guidance of higher ranking engineers; (3)Ability to apply logical thinking necessary for programming; (4)Knowledge of specifications of one or more programming languages and the ability to produce programs using specific language(s); and (5)Knowledge of program testing methods and the ability to perform tests.

1.3 Description of examination


(1)Test method (1.1)Paper tests are used to evaluate techniques and skills. The morning test is administered to test basic knowledge. The afternoon test is designed to evaluate technical application know how and other practical skills. Both tests will assess whether the examinees have the ability to meet the expected technical standards for fundamental information technology engineers (1.2)Styles of questions and test time Morning Afternoon 9:30 12:00 (150 min) 13:00 15:30 (150 min) Multiple choice test (selection Multiple choice test of one correct answer from 7 out of 11 questions must be four choices) All 80 questions answered must be answered (2)Scope of questions (See pages 11 to 32 for more details.) Level III is the most advanced and covers levels II and I. Level II covers level I.

1.4 Use of calculators


Use of electronic calculators of any kind will not be allowed.

1.5 Release of the results


(1)Release date of the result is scheduled on or before April 30, 2007. (2)Examinee numbers of applicants who passed the examination shall be published on a nationally circulated newspaper. The name list of successful examinees will also be posted at bulletin boards of

examination sites. In addition, our home page, http://www.jitse.org, and http://www.philnits.org, will display examinee numbers of those who passed. (3)Any inquiries with regard to the results of the examination shall not be accepted.

2.How to apply
2.1Examination fee and the payment method
(1)Examination fee shall be P1,500.00. Personal cheques will not be accepted (2)Payment of the examination fee will only be required when you receive email that your application has been accepted. (3)Payments will be accepted through any RCBC (Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation) branches nationwide or the JITSE Office at OPPEN Building, 349 Sen Gil Puyat, Makati 1200 (4)When paying through RCBC, get a deposit slip. (a)Deposit 1,500 to the JITSE Phil Foundation Savings account which will be sent to you via your e-mail. (b)One machine validated copy should be kept by you as proof of payment. (5)Send a photocopy of your deposit slip and together with two (2) passport-sized or 2 x 2 pictures with your name and signature at the back, to the JITSE Phil Foundation Inc. DTI-OPPEN Building, 349 Sen Gil Puyat, Makati City Metro Manila 1200 (6)You will receive your examination permit through registered mail. (7)The examination fee is non-refundable.

2.2 How to apply (Individual)


You can apply online via the Internet through the jitse website http://www.jitse.org, send your application through FAX, regular mail or visit the JITSE office. (1)An application form himself/herself. must be filled out by the applicant

necessary information by referring to the entry method on Section 3 pp. 5 to 9. Submit personally, mail or FAX to JITSE-Phil Foundation, DTI OPPEN Building 349 Sen Gil Puyat Street, Makati City Philippines 1200.

2.3 How to apply (Group)


(1)Applications are handled as group applications whenever ten or more individuals from the same organization apply at the same time. With group applications, the various procedures, such as the submission of applications, payment of examination fees, and receiving of examination admission cards and certificates of passing, are processed together. (2)An application form is attached at the back of this handbook and can be reproduced as needed. You can also download the application form from our web site. Please fill in the necessary information by referring to the entry method on Section 3 pp. 5 to 9. Submit personally or mail to JITSE-Phil Foundation Inc, DTI OPPEN Building, 349 Sen Gil Puyat St., Makati City Philippines 1200 (3)An application form must be filled out by each applicant himself/herself.

3. Download application form and send through email, fax, mail or register ONLINE 4.Important matters
4.1 Examination admission card
(1)A examination admission card will be mailed to each applicant (For group applicants, the notices of examination admission cards will be mailed by batch to the groups official representative). In addition, when you change your address after the submission of your application, please notify JITSE Phil Foundation immediately to avoid unnecessary delay. (2)When you receive your examination admission card, please check if the contents are correct. If there are errors, please follow the applicable procedures below: (a)In case of an error in the examination site please notify us immediately and correct it by red pen.

(b)In case of an error in your name, date of birth, sex or address, please correct it by red pen. The same procedure shall apply when you change your address after receipt of your notice of acceptance. Columns for addresses of group applicants are left blank intentionally. Please fill in your home address in the allotted space by yourself.

4.2 DOs and DONTs


(1)DO bring the following on the day of the examination: (a)Admission card. You will not be allowed to take the examination without this. (b)Valid identification (school ID or company ID, SSS or GSIS ID, TIN ID, passport, drivers license, PRC license) (c)Mongol pencil #2, sharpener, eraser, ruler (d)Snacks. You are allowed to eat during the exam. (e)Packed lunch. However, you are not allowed to eat inside the examination room during the one-hour lunch break. (2)DO make sure a picture is on your examination admission card. Without a picture, you may not sit for the examination irrespective of your reason. (3)DO make sure the examination site is correct. You may not sit for the examination in the location other than what is specified in your admission card. (4)DONT be late. Applicant entering his or her examination room more than 30 minutes after the examination has begun will forfeit his or her right to take the exam. (5)DONT put any other things such as pencil case, beeper, cellular phone, other programmable gadgets, or bag within arms reach.

eat food that will create noise during the examination such as crackers, chips, pork/chicken skin cracklings (chicharon), etc.

(7)DONT smoke inside the examination room. DONT go out of the room during examination without informing the proctor. Only one examinee per room is allowed to go out for a short duration accompanied by the proctor.
