These six countries are located near the Philippines, that’s why our musical instruments are slightly

similar to them. The kulintang, gongs are they musical instruments but they are also found in the central
region/ part (Visayas) of the Philippines. In the southern Philippines, Eastern Indonesia, Eastern
Malaysia, Brunei amd Timor are all known and using the musical instrument Kulintang. We are similar to
it because these given countries are all found in the Southeast Asian region.

In Cambodian music, song are associated with specific functions and sometimes for entertainment. They
used Kar music wedding celebration, Ayai for communications to the spirits, Pinn Peat used for religious
ceremonies. Cambodian music are rooted and influenced by ancient people. Khloy is one example of the
Cambodian musical instrument. Khloy used by ancient khemer people and was made by bamboo. It is
similarly like the klui flute of Thailand. It was played using the pentatonic scale.

In Myanmar, orchestra called ‘Saing’. It was dominated by percussion and played together with their
traditional dances. Traditional music from Burma is melodious, generally without harmony, and usually
in 4/4 time.
