Final Work English 1010 As you prepare your position synthesis for peer review on Monday and Wednesday,

, please do the following: Position Synthesis: Review the assignment to make sure you are meeting all the assignment criteria. Notice that the criteria ask you to use Chapter 8 to work on transitions between paragraphs and between ideas within paragraphs to improve overall coherence (flow). Please make sure you have read this chapter and that you use transitions as described on pages 104 113. Remember that this is a new paper, not your annotated bibliography. While you may use some of the passages and language from your bibliography, this is a different paper that is meant to show us the range of positions on the issue as well as the position you take and your reasons/evidence for this position. Finding an organization that shows the complexity of the issue is part of the learning task for this paper (see the paragraph on "Body" in the assignment). Above all, do not just transfer your annotations into this paper; think, instead, about grouping them to show similarities and differences in various positions. The rhetorical analysis you did in the bibliography does not show up in this paper as such. You may certainly point out flaws in arguments, and you can indicate you think a source is very credible in the way you introduce it. For example, you might say, "Noted psychologist and professor at Harvard University, John Bramble, argues that . . . " If you do not introduce your sources within your text, use in-text citations after any ideas or short quotes you use. Rely on paraphrase and quote sparingly. Remember that this paper is the chance for you to "put in your oar" as G/B say. Do everything in your power to be credible and persuasive in giving your reasons for your position. Make sure to include evidence that adds to your ethos and logos. Edit carefully to make sure your paper is free of fragments, comma splices, and run-ons. Proofread carefully for comma problems, typos, spelling, and wrong words.

Final Reflection for ePortfolio: Make sure your reflection addresses the following in several paragraphs: Discuss the whole process from proposal through annotated bibliography, class presentation, writing the final paper, peer review, and revision, focusing on how you enacted these various stages of thinking, writing, and revising. Explain what you have learned in the process of preparing your position synthesis, both about the issue itself, about writing in an academic setting for an audience, and about rhetoric (persuasion). Discuss your main strengths as a writer and point us to where we can see that in the position synthesis. Point out anything else you would like an audience beyond our class (the portfolio audience) to notice or pay attention to.

Post your Reflection and your Issue Summary in your ePortfolio by midnight, Friday, December 9. The last day of class is Wednesday, December 7. The reflection should be posted directly on the English 1010 page; upload the position synthesis paper as a pdf or rtf file below the reflection (do not upload a docx file). Make sure to publish your material in your ePortfolio so that I can view it. You get 20 points for posting, 10 for the reflection, 10 for the paper.
