SHOULD LAWYERS LIE?

The Code of Professional Responsibility provides the duty of lawyers to the Society, Legal Profession, the Court and to the Client. In complying with these duties, lawyers are place in dilemma when conflicting interests are at stake. Giving priority to the interest of one may violate his duties to others. Each duty are of equal importance, there is no hard and fast rule to be followed when faced with this dilemma. Not to mention, different situations warrant different ways in solving the problem. Dilemmas in legal ethics as of the moment will be present in lawyers dealings. It is only through the resolution of this dilemmas that the best interest of the society, legal profession, court and client can be achieved all at the same time. In the meantime, lawyers should be careful in using professional discretion in prioritizing their obligations.
