The company belongs to M.P. Birla group. There are mainly 3 companies of M. P.

Birla group manufacturing cables: 1) VTL, rewa telecom cables 2) Birla Ericssion , Rewa telecom cables 3) UCL, Satna power cables, control cables, instrumentation ( basically all cables except telecom ones) (UCL also makes capacitors) Turn-over : 600-700 crores at UCL Brand name UniStar Main Blocks- 1) Conductor 2) stranding 3) Insulation 4) Laying up 5) Sheathing There are mainly 3 types of power cables 1) 2) 3) 4) LV- =< 1.1kv MV- 1.1 kv to 33 kv HV- above 66 kv EHV- 220 kv and above

Main metals used: Al and Cu Process: 8-9 mm wires wire drawing .4-.5mm stranding

Sheathing (Insulating) Laying overall shething Some insulators: PVC, XLPE, Rubber High voltage cables require XLPE because of high temperature gradient. Methods of Processing: CCV- Catenery continuous vulcanization (it is now becoming obsolete) VCV- Vertical Continuous vulcanization (UCL manufactures XLPE cables using this procedures) ** At present UCL has capabilities to manufacture cables upto 220KV. India imports cables of 400 KV from other countries. Indigenous methods to manufacture 400kv cables can be developed.
