    Abstract Rapid Development in Science and Technology seems to have a great deal,yet there lies a gap between Scientists and common public. A good communication using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is needed to bridge the gap between them which will lead to success in Vision-2020 mission as said by our honourable Abdul Kalamji. This paper focuses on the empowerment of women, one of the elements in vision-2020.As per the five Millennium Development Goals of India Gender Equality, Women Employment, Education for women, primary education for girls, female mortality rate etcare to be focused. Women in the Indian coastal areas are affected every year by the coastal disasters such as cyclone, flood, etc. (more than 60% of women & children were affected in Tsunami - 2004). Inspite of designing mitigation policies and plans for the welfare of coastal community by Indian Government, women are worst affected at times of a disaster.The main reason behind this fact is lack of awareness regarding disasters which increases their vulnerability. Though formation of Self-Help groups (SHG) has increased their economic conditions, their awareness level with regard to disasters is found to be very less. Hence this paper will highlight the need for using ICT tools like television, radio, telephone, satelliteradios, internet, cell Broadcasting, sirens and community radio etc. for communicating disaster related information to women who are the most vulnerable in case of coastal disasters. When a woman in the family is educated, the whole family is educated; If a family is educated, the society is educated; If the society is educated, the whole nation is educated.
