IN-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES LIST (1)

During your field experiences, you will engage in a number of activities in each school visit designed to enhance your understanding of teaching and learning in local classrooms. These experiences will help you develop strategies and confidence to teach. We recommend you complete all of the listed at some point in your school visits. Keep records of your observations/impressions/thoughts in these activities so you can use this material to assist you in developing strategies to teach.
Encouraged Activities

1. Observe a classroom lesson. Complete the Lesson Observation Guide and add any further observations or impressions you may have. 2. Collect lesson plans, activities, and/or resources to support diverse students in your teaching subjects and related areas. 3. If possible or when appropriate, engage in professional conversations with administrators, teachers, and students, for example on topics like classroom management, school goals/ initiatives, teacher-student interaction, youth culture, etc. Record the highlights of these conversations and reflect further in writing on your impressions to these highlights. 4. Develop at least two lesson plans or activities in a content area of your expertise. Use the Lesson Planning Model as a guide. Tailor the lesson to the variety of students in the class. 5. Attend a staff meeting. Complete the Staff Meeting Checklist and add any further observations or impressions you may have. 6. Take an orientation tour of the school. Complete the School Tour Observation Guide and add any further observations or impressions/questions you may have. 7. Conduct an interview with the school Principal or Vice-Principal. Follow the Principal Interview Guide and add any further questions, observations, or impressions you may think of. 8. If possible or when appropriate, observe a phone call or other communication with parents. Complete the Parent Communication Checklist and add any further observations or impressions you may have. 9. Observe or participate in student extracurricular or club activities. Complete the School Activity Observation Guide and add any further observations or impressions you may have. 10. Conduct an interview with a teacher [or librarian]. Follow the Teacher Interview Guide and add any further questions, observations, or impressions you may think of.
