Investigatory Project TITLE: Effect of the Different Types of Substrates on the Biodegradability of SM Plastic Bags I.

Statement of the Problem If the SM plastic bags are exposed over a period of time to different substrates such as compost soil, loam soil, tap water and sea water, will these factors affect its biodegradability? Will the conduction of this experiment help in lessening the burden of the ever-growing garbage problem in our community? Will the abrupt exposure of SM plastic bags to different substrates make the degradation process quicker or will it make the process longer?

II.

Objectives of the Study A. General Objective: To adjudicate the effect of different substrates on the biodegradability of SM plastic bags. B. Specific Objectives:

1. To expose SM plastic bags to different substrates such as compost soil, loam soil, sea water and tap water for a duration of several months. 2. To know the difference between the weight of the SM plastic bags (grams) before and after different exposure periods to different substrates. 3. To administer the positive difference that the biodegradable plastic bags of SM has than those who use different harmful materials that does no good to our community.
