Using a Key Number Translation Table

1. Imagine this, you have been given an assignment to research the construction of arbitration agreements. You go the print digest and look up Arbitration [1]. Underneath the topic heading Arbitration and Award [2] you see the subheading Construction. It gives you [3] the key number, Arbit 7. All you have to do now is go find the Digest volume covering Arbitration, look up key number 7, and examine the cases annotations underneath, right?

2. So you go to the Arbitration volume, look up key number 7. But there are no annotations there!* Instead, the book tells you to see Alternative Dispute Resolution. What do you do now? You have just encountered the dreaded Renumbered Key Number. But dont fret! This is fixable. Go back to the shelf and find the main volume containing the section on Alternative Dispute Resolution. Flip to the start of the Alternative Dispute Resolution section. After the Table of Contents, you will see Table 1, Key Number Translation Table. This table will tell you how to translate the old Arbitration Key Number to the new Alternative Dispute Resolution Key Number.

Look for the old key number under the Former Key Number column [4] and look across the column to correlate the old number with the Present Key Number. In this instance, Arbitration to Alternative Dispute Resolution 137. 7 correlates
