BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- A Jefferson County judge appointed lawyers today to represent a Birmingham teen charged with capital murder in the slayings of five people on Sunday.
Lawyers Ralph Sheffield and Kira Fonteneau were appointed to represent Rashad Stoves, 17, during a first-call hearing before Circuit Judge Stephen Wallace. An order filed by Wallace also showed the case will be prosecuted by Alan Baty.
Stoves, Artavius Underwood, 16; and Reginald Mims, 16, are charged with capital murder. They are accused in the deaths of Ronnie Render, 42; Charles "CJ" Render, 21; Jonathan Sanchez, 23; Demetrius Sanford, 19; and Jeffrey Davis Jr., 23.
