102-102 20 June 2012 Essay Response A Film Unfinished Every time I am confronted with information about the Holocaust it leaves me dumbfounded. I cannot believe that humankind kind can perform such atrocities upon its fellow man. The needless killing of millions of innocent, helpless people is an outright outrage. What were the Nazi officers thinking? Were they afraid of being killed if they did not perform their orders of mass execution? Did they firmly believe in Adolf Hitlers plan for racial purity? How did such madness continue without anybody bringing it to the worlds attention? The actions carried out by the Nazis should be taught and handed down through the ages for all to see. All documentation and footage should serve as a reminder to all humanity that we must never let this genocide happen again. The footage in A Film Unfinished has educated me further in that I had never heard of these ghettos before. The people were essentially herded into a small community, confined there and left to starve. I believe it was Hitlers intent to show the world he was providing for these people in a humane sense when in reality he was planning on weakening them to a point of starvation of which they would die of their own hands. This would show the world and fellow Germans alike Jews were selfish people not willing to take care of their own people. The people put in those camps were fully aware that they could be killed or left to starve to death at any moment. There may have been people living there that could have possibly helped others but given their position of uncertainty chose not to. In such a position would you sacrifice your families well being to help others? In dire times people tend to revert back to their instincts protecting themselves and their loved ones first, helping others second. This idea is what the Nazis were trying to cover up through use of their propaganda campaign. Words: 341
