Amores perros is an inventive thriller which talks about three life along the margins in Mexico city.

The name Amores Perros means loves a bitch but in Spanish it also means a love that is tough or difficult, the one that makes you suffer. The name as the director says has been lost in the translation means an aphorism and translates like sometimes you hunt the bear, sometimes the bear hunts you. It is a double sense because dogs play a very important role in the lives of the characters of the movie. Amores Perros is a provoking incendiary film about Mexican city dwellers and their dogs. A man El Chivo is annex-revolutionary down on his luck thats been contracted to assassinate a business man. While waiting for his target he views a car crash and this scene is the films pivotal point. Amores perros into three sections each connected to otherwise unconnected characters whose lives are affected by a car crash. Teenager Octavio falls in love with Susana and vows to take her away from her abusive husband who is none other than Octavios brother. But in order to pay for this he takes to entering his beloved Rottweiler dog Cofi in the illegal dog fights regularly organized by the underworld connections. Where the first section with dogs tearing at anothers throat in order to enrich their owners, the second sequences features a pampered pet pooch RIchie-belonging to a Spanish model Valeria which disappears under the floorboards of its owners flat where it nearly starves to death while being gnawed by the rats. Like Octavio, Valeria is involved in the car crash that opens the movie where Octavios car hurtles through the city and hits Valerias and El Chivo, the third character of the movie is shown as an impassive witness of the events. Living in one room with his troupe of dogs he cares for, he seemed to have retreated from the world but his efforts to find out more about his daughter, who believes him to be dead, stays strong. The movie affects everyone strongly because it talks about low-life realism , secondly, acruel moral tale of the unexpected and third, a psychological thriller.
