ELEMENTS INVOLVED IN COMMUNICATION PROCESS

DEFINITION:

Communication is the transfer of information from one person to another person. It is the way of reaching others by transmitting ideas and thoughts, feeling and values..

COMMUNICATION PROCESS

Communication has been deemed as a process. The term process refers to identifiable flow of information through interrelated stages of analysis directed towards the achievement of an objective. In case of social action the concept of process is dynamic rather than static in which events and relationships are seen as dynamic, continuous, and flexible;

ELEMENTS IN COMMUNICATION PROCESS


Source initiates the process of communication by having a thought or an idea to transmit to some other entity. The source may or maynot have knowledge about the receiver of the message. Encoding activities that a source goes through to translate thoughts and ideas into a form that may be perceived by the senses. Message is the actual physical product that the sources encodes. Channels refers to the ways in which the message travels to the receiver

Decoding the decoding process is the opposite of the encoding process. It consists of activities that translate or interpret physical messages into a form that has eventual meaning for a receiver. Reciever is the target of the message- its ultimate goal. The receiver can be a single person, a group, an institution, or even large collection of people. In todays environment people are more often the receivers of communication messages than the sources. Feedback refers to those responses of the receiver that shape and alter the subsequent messages of the source. Feedback represents a reversal of the flow of communication.
