Dennis Duban, a CPA based in Los Angeles, along with his long-time partner Kevin Montgomery, have raised

a daughter, Chelsea. As a family, they have begun speak ing out on equal human rights across the nation. Here Duban explains the NOH8 ca mpaign and why his family chose to participate. Interviewer: What is the NOH8 campaign? Dennis Duban: NOH8 is a wonderful idea developed by the photographer Adam Bouska and his partner Jeff Parshley in response to the passage of Proposition 8 in Ca lifornia in 2008, making gay marriage unconstitutional in our state. The basic c oncept is that Adam photographs people with tape over their mouths symbolizing t he silence being imposed on them by this legislation. After three years, the pro ject now includes more than 20,000 faces. I: What types of people are photographed? DD: All types. Originally, Adam started with people from California, from every walk of life. Now the campaign has gained such popularity that it includes photo s of people from across the nation, celebrities, politicians, artists, and law e nforcement officials. I: And your family's faces are among those? DD: Yes. We decided to take it one step further. We posted our photos from the c ampaign on our website and announced that if we received 100,000 likes by a spec ific date, that we would donate $10,000 to the campaign. I: What inspired this? DD: Initially, it was Chelsea. She feels strongly about the issue of same-sex ma rriage. When Kevin and I got married, it was mainly for her sake, because she re ally wanted us to. Now she is very outspoken about gay rights. On our site it is her blog and her writing explaining why we chose to donate the money. We wanted to get the word out there.
