Your temperament and your life on campus Temperaments are the emotional part of someones character especially how

likely they are to be happy, angry etc. It can also be regarded as an individuals disposition. We all know there are four different temperaments the sanguine, the choleric, the melancholies and the phlegmatic. When asked, most young people testify to the fact that their lives on campus is widely different from home. A handful of people believe that there is more freedom and independence in the university. The university is a society on its own, Every society has different types of people inhabiting it that is why we find sanguine, choleric, phlegmatic &melancholies in a university. How then are they recognized? Their way of live. Romeo gets to class 30mins after the lecture began and he doesnt even feel bothered. He is always neatly and richly dressed. He has nice perfume on and always likes to be noticed. He is always current with the things in vogue i.e. songs, dressing styles, clothes etc. Romeo chats freely with everybody, he is always making new friends (good or bad). He is very popular and there is hardly any social gathering or party he doesnt go. He always has the right words to say, so charming. When there is a class test Romeo is often never prepared. He most of the times passes with the help of his friends. When he finally makes up his mind to concentrate more on his studies there comes this big group on campus they are so hot and fly. Theyve got swag and connections, they are into campus stuffs like magazines, dinners, parties, award nights. If you are not one of them you are just not the in thing and Romeo is already considering joining them and truth is he doesnt even need to apply or persuade them to take him in, they are already waiting for him. So at the end of the semester Romeos G.P manages to be a little bit near average (a 2nd class lower) and he feels well I am not a bookworm if I cant do so well in my academics there are so many other interesting tush things I can do! Peter gets to class 10mins to the lecture and doesnt care whether all the front seats have been reserved or taken he will seat on the front row no matter what it takes. He is not such a good dresser but manages to wear clothes that are just ok. Peter believes in studying very hard, he doesnt have time for frivolities. When there is a group study or tutorial peter is always the first to attend. He often understands new topics and explains it to others. Peter is good academically when there is a class test peter knows the answer to almost all the questions but he doesnt teach his friends during tests. Peter is bad tempered and most of the time he lives a one-sided life. He hardly participates In extracurricular activities all he cares about is getting a first class. At the end of the semester his G.P is either a first class or a strong 2nd class upper. He blames himself for not having a first class and might even starve himself to make it. Rita is beautiful and decent. She gets to class 1hr before the lecture starts so that she can save a seat in front conveniently. She reads hard everyday, she equally has friends who read and study with her. Rita participates in religious activities as well but she doesnt let it affect her studies. Rita never goes to parties or dinners. She avoids late nights except its because of a religious activity.

Rita is very organised, she has her day planned out, she hardly makes friends but when she does she is faithful to them. During class test Rita knows a high percentage of the questions. She doesnt talk throughout the test either to give out an answer or ask one. Rita likes to get information about things especially things she is interested in. Rita is not very social, but she is good in areas she has interest in. You hardly recognise Rita in a gathering except she stands up to talk which she rarely does. At the end of the semester Ritas G.P is a first class or a powerful 2nd class upper. Although at times Rita might end up with a low 2nd class upper. She is a bit disappointed if she ends up with a weak 2nd class upper but she thinks well I did my best, I can do better if I try harder. Theresa gets to class late and doesnt mind sitting at the back as long as nobody is fighting over the sit with her. She is not so beautiful not ugly either. She reads hard for tests and exam but she most times doesnt understand what she has read yet she would keep quiet about it for the fear of being looked down upon. She participates in religious activities but isnt always at the centre of things. She prefers to be hidden to let others do the work while she supports than to be the one to lead. She is not so much bothered about being stagnant or not being promoted. She doesnt go to parties not because she feels its bad but because she is wondering what will people say? What if there is a fight and Im hurt? During class tests, she is often affected by examination tension that she forgets all she has read, she doesnt write anything down and is scared of asking from a friend what if Im caught? she thinks. She lives everyday as if its the same not particularly interested in anything just likes to watch others do it. At the end of the semester she comes out with either a low 2nd class lower or a 3rd class. She often feels sad and concludes that she just might not be able to make it. Romeo is a sanguine, peter is a choleric, Rita is a melancholic while Theresa is a phlegmatic. I must add that all these attributes differ in various individuals this is because most individuals combine two or more temperaments that is why its possible for Romeo the sanguine to still come out with a 2nd class upper and be actively involved with religious activities. If Romeo is like that then he is combining the sanguine and melancholic traits. If Peter comes out with first or 2nd class upper and he still participates in extra curricular activities like sports or religious activities and always like things to be done the right way then he is combining the choleric and melancholic traits. If Rita comes out with a first class or a high second class upper and is still not so motivated into participating in extracurricular activities and likes to keep more of things hurting her to herself then she is combining the melancholic and phlegmatic traits. Theresa goes to parties and dinners. she is always changing dating partners like clothes , she still isnt motivated to do anything apart from partying, keeps things hurting her or her feelings to

herself, is stingy and doesnt stand out for anything worthwhile then most of all still comes out with a 3rd class or manages a second class lower. She is a sanguine phlegmatic. If Romeo comes out with a first class, has more girlfriends than he can remember, always likes things being done his own way, if he is so bossy and likes to be the ladies man, can force a young lady or manipulate her to dance to his tunes then he is a choleric sanguine. Just like Keith Harrell believes that attitude is everything, I believe that temperament is everything. Your temperaments defines who you are. Its determines a great deal about you and how far you go in life. Truth is every temperaments as its advantages and disadvantages. This buttress the fact that no one is perfect only God is the master of perfection. An individual that has discovered his/her temperament or temperament combination should try and improve the gifts and work on the disadvantages.
