CD4E Direct Shell Washer - Heavy Duty (Plastic 4 Tab)

Make : Ford & Mazda Year : 1990 2010 Transmission : CD4E / LA4A-EL

PART NUMBER : GDE - 536841 THICKNESS : 0.137in (3.48mm)

PROBLEM AREA :

Patent Pending

Breakage of the Direct Shell Washer (Four Tab). Between Input Drum and Direct Shell.
TECH :

The washer breaks due to its thinness and inability to support the direct shell. The direct shell causes the washer to collapse around the snap ring and break into smaller pieces, which could eventually lead to the unit's failure.
SOLUTION :

By engineering, greater dimensions into the washer, it gave it a greater tensile strength than the factory washer. The Factory washer is 0.078in (1.98mm) in thickness. The replacement washer, By Greater Dimensions Engineering, is 0.137in (3.48mm) in thickness leaving .005in (.127mm) to .010in (.254mm) in endplay tolerance between the drum and direct shell. With the factory washer, this leaves .054in (1.50mm) endplay between the drum and the direct shell, + 0.020in (.508mm) when the washer begins to fail. This amount of endplay tolerance in any unit will lead to more bushing wear and eventually hard part failure. After extensive testing we found that the factory washer begins to lose its tensile strength after about 3000 miles on the average unit. The heavy duty washer, by Greater Dimensions Engineering, should last the life of the unit. Innovations Outside the Box
