The purpose of this Waste Management Plan (WMP) is to streamline the waste management, including the segregation, storage, recycling and disposal of waste generated for Shell Offshore French Guiana Exploration Activities in line with relevant French Guiana, Trinidad and Tobago legislation, as well as Shell policy.
1.2 Target Audience
Principal users of this plan will be operational and HSE staff supporting Shell Offshore French Guiana Exploration Activities.
1.3 Scope
The collection, segregation, handling, storage, labelling and manifesting of all waste generated on the Stena IceMax Drilling Vessel where it has been detailed in Stenas Waste Management Procedure (Stena Document No. TBD), will be managed utilising that procedure. Wastes generated on the Stena IceMax not identified in Stena Document No. TBD, will be managed utilising the procedures in this WMP. Waste generated by the Supply and Standby vessels will be managed utilizing this plan. Final disposal of project wastes shipped to, handled, and stored at the ASCO base in Trinidad will follow the prescribed methods identified by Enviroco for the disposal of the waste. Waste generated on the ASCO base will follow the Enviroco Environmental Management Plan. Waste generated by heliport in French Guiana, will be disposed of in compliance with waste disposal and environmental regulations in French Guiana as outlined in the Helibases waste management plan (Helibase Document No. TBD).

This WMP addresses waste management associated with routine activities and does not address waste management under an Oil Spill Response activity. Such activities, should they occur, would be governed by Shells Oil Spill Response Plan (OSRP).
The following reference documents were utilized in the preparation of this WMP: Stena IceMax Waste Management Procedure (Stena Document No. TBD) CGGVeritas Ocean Pheonix Work Instruction (MAR_PHX_SEO_WOI_32E) Enviroco Environmental Management Plan (Enviroco Document No. TBD) Helibase Waste Management Plan (Helibase Document No. TBD) Shell HSSE & SP Control Framework Environment Manual for Waste Annex V MARPOL
1.5 Waste Management Principles
In alignment with the Shell HSSE & SP Control Framework Environmental Manual for Waste, the following principles/requirements should be followed: Incorporate controls to reduce Waste generation into Procedures and working practices. Identify opportunities to reuse Waste for the same or alternative applications, including in other industries, or return unused materials to suppliers. Identify recycling and recovery opportunities for Waste material. Identify, segregate and store Waste. Transport and Dispose of Waste. Retain Waste tracking records for periods defined by local legal requirements and the Group Records Management System.
The following table presents the various waste streams likely to be encountered during the project. Wastes can be characterized as either Hazardous or Non-Hazardous. Given multiple definitions for those terms, they are not repeated here. Rather, the following waste streams are identified along with their classification based on ASCO Technical Specification document. Full details for the following waste streams can be found in Appendix B of this WMP.
Waste Description Classification
Domestic Wastes Scrap Wood Scrap Metal Recyclables (Glass, Paper, Plastic, & Aluminum) Miscellaneous non-hazardous wastes Oil/Fuel Filters Waste Oil Oily Rags/Gloves Oil Contaminated Sludge Batteries Medical Waste Flourescent Tubes Empty oil/chemical drums Empty Paint Cans Paints/Thinners/Spent Chemicals E-Waste (Phones, computers, monitors, UPS Batteries, etc.) & Toner Cartridges Waste Chemicals Cooking Oil
Non-Hazardous Non-Hazardous Non-Hazardous Non-Hazardous Non-Hazardous Hazardous Hazardous Hazardous Hazardous Hazardous Hazardous Hazardous Hazardous Hazardous Hazardous Hazardous Hazardous Hazardous
In addition to the above materials managed by the shorebase, the following bulleted list identifies waste streams that are managed on-board: Grey Water / Black Water Drill Cuttings (Synthetic Based Mud) Drill Fluids and Cuttings (Water Based Mud) Produced Gas from Well Test Produced Water from Well Test Food Waste
Shell Waste Management Plan - Offshore FG.docx Print date: 3/13/2012 Page 5 of 5 Uncontrolled if Printed
To assist in the proper management of wastes, a waste management table is provided in Appendix B for typical waste streams. Included in this table is a description of the waste, the waste classification, whether treatment on-site is conducted, how the waste is segregated and stored, how the waste is labelled, transported, and potential offsite disposal/recycling method.
3.2 Waste Transport Manifest
The Waste Transport Manifest is a document that must be issued for every waste type to be transported to a different location. The manifest establishes the necessary action to control the transport of waste, from the rig, seismic vessel, supply/standby vessels, and shore base to final disposal. Each vessel will have their own waste manifest forms for waste generated and transported from the rig. All manifest forms for the transportation of waste to ASCO, will be held by the Enviroco Operations Coordinator as the waste is received and verified. The manifesting and transport of waste collected and stored at the ASCO base to final disposal facilities will utilise Enviroco procedures and forms.
3.3 Waste Disposal Record
Enviroco will summarise the type, amount, transport and final disposal of waste transported to the ASCO base from the rig, and vessels, and detail this information on the Waste Disposal Record in Appendix C of this plan. This information will also house the specific manifest form numbers from the drilling rig, seismic vessel, standby and supply vessels, and cross reference them with Enviroco generated manifest for transport to final disposal.
3.4 Audits
Internal audits on the waste management at the ASCO shore base will be conducted at an undetermined frequency. This can be one part of ISO14001 internal audit at ASCO to maintain the ASCO ISO14001 certificate. Internal audits on the waste segregation processes on the vessels will also be conducted at an undetermined frequency in alignment with Stena Document No. TBD and MAR_PHX_SEO_WOI_32E.
Roles and responsibilities aboard the CGGVeritas seismic vessel and Stena Icemax drilling vessel are detailed in MAR_PHX_SEO_WOI_32E and Stena Document No. TBD, respectively. Roles and responsibilities for the ASCO shore base are similarly detailed in the Enviroco Waste Management Plan and Technical Specification documents. For brevity, these roles and responsibilities are not repeated here. In addition to roles outlined in the above documents, Shell HSE advisors have responsibilities as follows: Responsible for assisting CGGV, Stena, and other supply/standby vessels in the adequate implementation of this WMP; Responsible for assisting ASCO shore base in determination of appropriate classification of wastes (as necessary); Responsible for ensuring that adequate training, reviews, inspections and audits have been performed in accordance with this WMP; and Responsible for reviewing Waste Disposal Record (Appendix C) and making adjustments as needed to this WMP as new waste streams are identified.
