Finally something that has been widely debated with respect to its allowance in the light of Islam.
There are always conflicts of opinion regarding such matters. Something I found with a little research
give a clear concept on Music.
If we were to start this analysis with respect to the Glorious Quran, it says

And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from
the Path of ALLAH (Subhana Wa Ta Aala) without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of ALLAH
(Subhana Wa Ta Aala)), the Verses of the Quran) by way of mockery. For such there will be a
humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire) [Ref: Al Quran: Surah Luqman, Chapter #31 Verse #6]
And some people buy words for men playing that they may mislead from the path of ALLAH without
knowledge and to make fun of it, For them are the humiliating torments.
The following great Commentators state that lahw al Hadith in the above verse refers to music

and many other sahaba karam and tabeen said that in this verse idle talks means music and singing.
The two greatest commentators of this Ummah, Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood and Hazrat
Abdullah bin Abbas (RadiALLAH unhuma), used to take an oath and say that this verse refers
to music. [Ref: Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 5/132, Al Mustadrak lil Hakim 2/211, Sunan al kubra lil
Bahiqe 10/223, Ad Durr al mansoor 8/76, Al Hawi al Kabeer 17/388, An Nukat wal uyoon 3/332, Tafseer
Ibn Katheer 6/330, Tafseer al Qurtubi 14/52, Tafseer al Baghwi 6/283, Tafseer al lubaab libni Adil 13/10,
Tafseer al Khaazin 5/145, Tafseer at Tabari 20/127, Zad al maser 5/105, Fatawa Rizwiya 23/293, Maarif
al Quraan 7/28, Dhamm al malahi 5-6, Ahsan al fatawa 8/380]. For example it is also stated in following
Hadith.

Sayyidina Abu Umamah (RadiALLAH unhu) reported that ALLAHs Messenger (Hazrat Muhammad Sallal
lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm) said, Do not

sell singing-girls, nor buy them, nor teach them (to sing). And there is no good in this business and the
price paid for them is unlawful. It is about like this case that this verse was revealed: And of mankind is
he who buys frivolous discourse. (31: 6 to the end) [Ref: Muslim 2168, Tirmizi B#1 H#1302, and Tirmizi
B#2 H#1143]
Hadith # 2
During the time of the Hazrat Muhammad Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi
waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm there was no audio cassettes one could
purchase but there we musical instruments like a Rabab which is similar to a guitar or a flute.

Narrated Aisha RadiALLAH unha: Allah's Apostle (Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe walehe
wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm) came to my house while two girls
were singing beside me the songs of Buath (a story about the war between the two tribes of the Ansar,
the Khazraj and the Aus, before Islam). The Prophet (Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe walehe
wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm) lay down and turned his face to
the other side. Then (Hazrat) Abu Bakr (RadiALLAH unhu) came and spoke to me harshly saying,
"Musical instruments of Satan near the Prophet (Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe walehe
wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm)?" Allah's Apostle (Hazrat
Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek
wasalm) turned his face towards him and said, "Leave them." When (Hazrat) Abu Bakr (RadiALLAH
unhu) became inattentive, I signaled to those girls to go out and they left. It was the day of Eid [Ref:
Sahih Bukhari B#1 H#906, Sahih Muslim B#1 H#2058]

Abu Huraira RadiALLAH unhu reported ALLAHs Messenger (Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe
walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm) as saying: The bell is the
musical instrument of the Satan. [Ref: Muslim B#3 H#1051]

Narrated Hazrat Abdullah ibne Umer RadiALLAH unhu: Nafi' said: (Hazrat) Ibn Umer (RadiALLAH unhu)
heard sound of drum, put his fingers in his ears and went away from the road. He (RadiALLAH unhu)
said to me: Are you hearing anything? I (RadiALLAH unhu) said: No. He (RadiALLAH unhu) said: He
(RadiALLAH unhu) then took his fingers out of his ears and said: I (RadiALLAH unhu) was with the
Prophet (Hazrat Muhammad Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi
waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm), and he (Hazrat Muhammad Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu
alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm) heard like this and
he did like this. [Ref: Ibn e Maja J#2 H#58, Abu Dawood J#3 H#1519]

It was narrated from (Hazrat) Abu Malik Ash' ari (RadiALLAH unhu) that the Messenger of Allah (Hazrat
Muhammad Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi
wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm) said: "People among my nation will drink wine, calling it by another
name, and musical instruments will be played for them and singing girls (will sing for them). Allah
(tabark o watalla) will cause the earth to swallow them up, and will turn them into monkeys and pigs,"
[Ref: Ibn e Maja B#3 H#900]

Sayyidina Imran ibne Husain (RadiALLAH unhu) reported that Allahs Messenger (Hazrat Muhammad

wabarek wasalm) said, This ummah will face being swallowed up, metamorphosis and pelting rain. A
man among the Muslims submitted, O Messenger of Allah, (Hazrat Muhammad Hazrat Muhammad
Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm), and
when will that be? He (Hazrat Muhammad Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi
waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm) said, When singing girls and musical
instruments show themselves up and wine is drunk.[Ref: Tirmizi B#3 H#94]

Sayyidina Abu Huraira (RadiALLAH unhu) reported that Allahs Messenger (Hazrat Muhammad Hazrat
wasalm) said, When the fai (war booty gained without fighting) is taken as wealth, trust as a booty,
zakah as a tax, knowledge is imparted for purposes other than religion, a man obeys his wife but is
disloyal to his mother, he draws, near his friend but keeps away from his father, voices are raised in
mosques, cjuiefs of the tribe are the most sinful of them, a leader of the people is the basest of them, a
man is honored because of fear of mischief from him, singing girls and musical instruments become
common, wine is drunk, the last of this ummah curse the first of them, then await, at such time a violent
red wind, earthquakes, being swallowed up by earth, transfiguration, pelting of stones from heaven and
signs following each other as though beads of a rosary fall in succession when the thread has
broken.[Ref: Tirmizi B#2 H#93]

voices are cursed in this world and the hereafter; Music at the time of happiness and wailing at the
time of calamity [Ref: Al Bazzar, Adh Dhiyaa al Maqdisi, Ibn Murduyah, Al Bahiqe, Abu Nuaim and
others. Allama Haythami and Allama Mundhiri both said: The narrators are reliable i.e. this Hadith is
authentic)

Conclusion
Music is Haram in Islam. I have read more than 50 Hadith of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Hazrat
wasalm, More Than 20 verdicts of sahaba karam Rizwan Ullah e ajmaeen and tabeen Rehmat Ullah
Alehe, more than 80 verdicts of scholars of Four schools (Hanfi, Malki, Shafi & Hanbali) and ghair
muqalideen (wahabi) in which they prohibits Music and Singing.

THIS PART IS FURTHER EXPLINATION DEALING WITH THE SKEPTICS ARGUMENT:
For a Muslim who already believes that music or singing is Haram, this should be more than sufficient.
To hold and argument this view point should put both of them on the same stage. If I were to leave this
topic here, this should be enough but I will not do so because I need to do justice with the topic.

PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT MUSIC IS HALAL BASED ON THE FOLLOWING VERSES.
FIRST VERSE

And your Lord knows best all who are in the heavens and the earth. And indeed, We have preferred
some of the Prophets above others, and to Dawood (alehe salaam) We gave the Zaboor (Psalms) [Ref:
Al Quran: Surah Al-Isra, Chapter #17 Verse #55]
The Zaboor (Psalms) was revealed just like the Quran, Torah and the Injeel. The misunderstood in this
context which is taken for singing is the word Az- Zaboor which means A Sacred Song which by no
means is an implication of allowing music. This word was given to the beauty of the Zaboor (Psalms)
and how Holy Prophet Dawood (alehe salaam) uses to recite it. If one was to read the Psalms (in the
Old Testament) one would find a mention of singing and an instrument but not in the context that it
would apply to singing.
SECOND VERSE

Strike the ground with your foot: This is a spring of water to wash in, cool and a (refreshing) drink
[Ref: Al Quran: Surah Sad, Chapter #38 Verse #42]
This verse by no means is referring as striking your foot on the ground as dancing. In this verse ALLAH
Subhana Wa Ta Aala directs Holy Prophet Ayoob (alehe salaam) to strike the foot on the ground and
when he does a spring comes forth. He then drinks from the spring.
ANALYSING THE HADITH
The strongest argument that is put forth is why did Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Hazrat Muhammad
Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm told
Hazrat Ayesha (RadiALLAH unha) to leave the kids alone that were playing music. It comes in Hadith #
3 given above in start.
The part in the verse when the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe walehe
wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm says to allow them to play on that
certain occasion does not mean it is allowed for all times. Also what people fail to see that it was the
day of Eid. If for example your parents have allowed you to play till five and one day your mother calls
you in but its Eid day and your father says let them play longer does that mean that your suppose to
play after five o clock ? After the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe
walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm left Hazrat Ayesha
(RadiALLAH unha) hinted them to leave. Why would Hazrat Ayesha (RadiALLAH unha) hint them to
leave if there was nothing wrong with it? Also Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Hazrat Muhammad Sallal
lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm never said they

are not instruments of Saitan. He never pointed out what Hazrat Abu Bakr RadiALLAH unhu was saying
was incorrect. Meaning he agreed with Hazrat Abu Bakr (RadiALLAH unhu)s stand.
If one was to argue that Prophet Hazrat Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi
waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm told them to stay because he Hazrat
Muhammad Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi
wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm wanted to hear them, then why would Hazrat Ayesha (RadiALLAH unha)
tell them to leave if she (RadiALLAH unhu) knew the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Hazrat Muhammad
Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm was
enjoying it.

Narrated Hazrat Aisha RadiALLAH unha: that she (RadiALLAH unha) prepared a lady for a man from the
Ansar as his bride and the Prophet (Hazrat Muhammad Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe walehe
wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm) said, "O 'Aisha (RadiALLAH unha)!
Haven't you got any amusement (during the marriage ceremony) as the Ansar like amusement?" [Ref:
Bukhari J#3 H#149]

This is one of major hadith from which people conclude that music is allow in Islam. Clarification of this
hadith is that this incident is before the prohibition of Music. As we all know, Quran revealed gradually.
It did not come simultaneously. And this statement Haven't you got any amusement (during the
marriage ceremony) as the Ansar like amusement? was only for specific time and for specific people. If
this order was for all then why we did not find any other hadith of this topic. Why Sayyidina Hazrat Abu
Bakr Sadeeq RadiALLAH unhu, Sayyidina Hazrat Umer Farooq RadiALLAH unhu, Sayyidina Hazrat
Usman Ghani RadiALLAH unhu, Sayyidina Mola Ali Murtaza karam ALLAH wajhu and other sahaba

Sayyidina Muhammad ibne Hatib al-Jumahi (RadiALLAH unhu) narrated that Allahs Messenger (Hazrat
wasalm) said, The division between the lawful and the unlawful lies in the daff (tambourine) and the
voice (which is the announcement). [Ref: Tirmizi B#1 H#1088]

It was narrated that Hazrat Muhammad bin Hatib RadiALLAH unhu said: Allahs Messenger (Sallal lahu
alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm) said: What
differentiates between the lawful and the unlawful is the voice.[Ref: Nissai B#3 H#1283]

In Hadith 14 & 15, people take voice as singing song. This is wrong. It means announcement. If it means
singing a song then why Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi
waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm did not do this on his 11 weddings and on her daughters
wedding???????? For us life of Allahs Messenger Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi
waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm is best example and pattern of life to spent.

There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah (Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi
waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm) an excellent pattern for anyone. [Ref: Al
Quran: Surah Ahzab, Chapter #33 Verse #21]

Daff does not mean to beat it and dance on it, as it happens in todays weddings. As illegal work is done
silently, thats why prophet Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi
wabarek wasalm said beat daff for announcement so that people may know that you that you are doing
something legal. As these days invitation cards do same duty, so daff is no more needed.

In Islam everything is very clear. There is not a single Hadith or Quranic Verse that allows the playing of
music. For those who think this is a gray area where you cant decided wither it is right or wrong, think
about it logically if you are not sure wither a food is poisonous or not will you eat it ? Obviously not, for
someone in their right mind would stay away from something harmful. Islam is not only a religion but a
way of life, whose way of life? The ways of life of the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Sallal lahu alehe
walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm and he never played
musical instruments or sing songs. There is not a single Hadith that says Prophet was singing, or playing
a flute or any instrument.
THOUGHTS AND LOGIC
A common question is: Is music really that harmful that the Prophet Sallal lahu alehe walehe
wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm put it in the same category as
illegal sex, drinking of alcohol and wearing silk.

From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the
wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful. [Ref:
Bukhari j#3 h#556]
So, the people who say that music is allowed in Islam are not surprising. Because my beloved prophet
Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi
wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm knows the unseen (). So He Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi
waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm told us before it happens. As Hazrat
Muhammad Mustafa Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi waazwajehi wazuriyatehi
wabarek wasalm never told a lie, so it is must that some Muslims will say that Islam allows Music, For
this some Muslim will prove that music in legal by changing the real meaning of Quranic verses and
Hadith. Javaid Ahmad Ghamdi and some other Muslim scholars (they are Muslim only by name, in
reality they are non-muslim and agents of anti-Islam) are example of it.
The question is, is it really that bad? Well my question is, is that not what your creator who knows you
better than you know yourself is telling you? Have we not seen enough celebrities especially in the
music field involved with drugs, alcohol, who commit illegal sexual intercourse?
This one Hadith is enough for us to stop music and singing. Also because I know how addictive music is.
One could easily spend 14-16 hours on a guitar. Why is it that it is so hard for a normal teenager or
adult to stop listening to music? Why does it have such a great impact? If this is not addiction then I am
not very much sure myself what is.
Music corrupts the minds of our youth. There is no difference between music and opium. Both create
lethargy in different ways. If you want your country to be independent, then ban music. Music is
treason to our nation and to our youth.
SCIENTIFIC REASONING
Today, science after much progress tells us that music can be harmful to humans, just to list
a few:

- Music affects the amplitude and frequency of brain waves, which can be measured by an electro-
encephalogram. Music also affects breathing rate and electrical resistance of the skin. It has been
observed to cause the pupils to dilate, increase blood pressure, and increase the heart rate.

- Certain kinds of music actually drain energy from your childrens brains and bodies and can actually
affect their hormone levels (this is especially a problem with teens).
- Music affects cell protoplasm and even chromosomes. Consider what you are passing on to your
children and their children.
To finish it off I will leave you people with an open challenge for everyone. Find me one verse from the
Quran or the Hadith where Prophet Muhammad (Sallal lahu alehe walehe wasahabehi waahlebaithi
waazwajehi wazuriyatehi wabarek wasalm) said play music, sing, where he himself did it. If one can do
that, I have no problem accepting it as long as the Hadith is authentic.
