conviction have perfection, which comes from my experience, so it is up to you, future managers either to follow my words or to make your own conviction. Then he got into Believing Oneself session with the perspective of motivational oriented PPT along with his experiential incident and some reference quoting from the book of Dr. Stephen R. Covey The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Second session began with his style on the topic Effective Manager, stating to get angry as first point. It might sound strange but getting angry about where you are is actually a very good thing. Second point is to build the muscle stating to take action like a muscle; its a skill that must be built and stren gth-en ed over time, so he wanted us to build it. Start small, set mini-goals for ourselves, small tasks we can do in just a few minutes. Third point is to strike when the iron is hot. Often, the moment bursting with the most drive and excitement is in the beginning, when a goal or idea first comes to mind. Fourth point is to raise yor standards stating we dont often defy our standards. If we are not the type of person who smokes, you cant imagine falling into the habit. Its just not who you are or who see yourself to be. Fifth point is to gather your personal motiva-tors stating what books moti-vate you? What movies in-spire you? What people, place or things make you to do the things you say you want to do?. Sixth point is clothes do matter stating the way you dress affects the way you feel. The way you feel affects the way you act. Sev-enth point is to get organized stating plain and simple: A cluttered desk or home or office makes for a

cluttered mind. Eighth point is to be discomfort, anyone? Stating to do something that makes you uncomfortable at least once a week, Once a day if you are ambitious. Ninth point is Who Did This? because you are unique, no question about it.. Even so, I have a feeling someone out there has been in your shoes. They shared your struggle and your dream and they found a way. Tenth point is to get it in writing stating that we used to keep everything in our heads. To do lists, business ideas, scheduleseverything I thought of or about squeezed its way into an already crowded space. Last session was followed by some interview tips such as Preliminary thoughts about the interview stating 1) Only a few are HRD Professionals and they too are nervous, so show you are a good team player. 2)Interview is two way street, they judge you and you too can judge the company. 3) Research the company be-fore you interview 4) Present a profile of yourself in less than 2 minutes; it is like two minutes commercial. 5) Show interest in the com-pany, the job and especially the interviewer. 6) Prove that you are capable of performing rater than just describing. 7)Provide concrete examples that illustrate the successes you have achieved so far. 8) Be positive, polite and personal. 9) Dont fabricate, guess or federalize and do not get in-volved in a debate with te in-terviewer 10) Make sure that you carry a well prepared resume with you. The seminar finally led to path of success in an encouraging way.

INTERVIEW WITH MR. R. VIJAYA KUMAR (DIRECTOR OF MMA)

There was a time when we

were watching interviews of eminent personalities from NDTV, CNN-IBM that really made a lot of excitement and inspiration within our beings. Now the time has come for the management students at VelTech Ranga Sanku Arts College to experience the same excitement and inspiration in term of interviewing the eminent personality We feel excited, when our appointment was confirmed by Mr. R. Vijaya Kumar, Director of Madras Management Association Yesunder the guidance of MBA Faculty,, an interviewing young managers crew was formed . The members of the crew were Ms Lavayana, Mr Jeyachandran Ms Yuvashree and Nelson, as soon as we reached MMA at thoraipakkam. Ms. Revathi (MMA Manager ) directed us to Mr. R. Vijaya Kumar, who whole heartedly invited us. Mr Vijaykumar was a magnanimous, hard working and multifaceted person which our crew experienced in and through his activities amidst of the interview. We started shooting our questions and received an answer very effectively in a much simpler language. QUESTIONS : Jayachandran J: How do you perceive management, Sir? Mr. R. Vijaya Kumar: I perceive that management is how I manage myself and how do I utilize the available resources to achieve the objectives. Ms. Lavanya: Sir, every one has his\ her management style, so what is yours management style? Mr. R. Vijaya Kumar: My management style comes from 31 yrs of army experience, where people management is very prominent. It is to make sub-ordinates fathom their potential and passionate towards organizational goal. Sometimes there is chance, where the people get corrupted emotionally but do never mind rather treat everything like a game, finds rules and play it meticulously. Playing by rules of law that is the style of management, I follow. Nelson A: Sir, Can you tell us about Modern trend Management challenge? Mr. R. Vijaya Kumar: The biggest chal-

lenge in the modern management is that people management. One has to be highly technical, highly knowledgeable, need innovative practices and update of what is happening in the world of corporate is very important. Here I would like to pinpoint MBA students that they should have aspirations. If Aspirations are not met, it will be disappointed. So Win the aspirations of the people.

Mr. R. Vijaya Kumar: I am very privileged to be with a lot of corporate heads, so I have noticed some CEOs who are absolute professionals, first they listen and then decide. They always look for innovations. They also mind that everybody performs well. They are updated with every nook and corner of business. (Know youre strengths and also your enemy strengths its very important for a top leader) Yuva Shree R: What are common problem exist between superior and sub-ordinates in an organization? Mr. R. Vijaya Kumar: I wont say that there is a common problem exist between supervisor and subordinates. A problem will arise only when there are different opinions between superior and sub-ordinates. (as a leader you may not have any friends but you should not have any enemy). A leader should always stands by his\her good decisions. if you do it, you will never make any mistakes. Jayachandran J: How do you differentiate B -School and University MBA students in career? Mr. R. Vijaya Kumar: The B-school students get placed and get good salary because of one simple reason is that all the time they perform well under pressure and competitive spirit and their remarkable performance in all levels makes them big . Today companies look for experiences of student in terms of his/her academic exposures. As a student he/ she should be concerned what experience you have gained is essential. I want to appreciate your newsletter, where you take a serious task and try to do it. Take a list of companies that are not coming to university affiliated colleges for placement and make them your worthwhile for their companies. *Play the challenge *Solve the problem *Be flexible and adaptive to any situations. Try to gain more experience in this two years of MBA Ms. Lavanya: As a Director of MMA, what do you suggest to Management Students, Sir? Mr. R. Vijaya Kumar: love what you do and do it passionately. Be with company of good and intelligent people, because they will support you to reach high destiny. Be a winner, sometime accept the failure in order that you would be creating the roads of success.

Management Students with Mr. Vijaya Kumar (Director of MMA)

Yuva Shree R: Sir, how do you evaluate success? Mr. R. Vijaya Kumar: Success has different meaning for different people. Now I evaluate success what I achieved towards organization. Normally success is measurable and non-measurable. My success will be measured by those who follow me. To be very successful, you should always look at your subordinates, are they developed and come into main stream. They may be leaders of tomorrow. (if people remember me after my period is also a great success for me) . Jayachandran J: Being a Director of MMA, what is the most difficult decision to make? Mr. R. Vijaya Kumar: I believe that you should stick on to the decision when it comes to the quality of subordinates. Every decision has to be made accordingly to the needs and demand also considering the situations. (Always never appreciate underperformance) So if you appreciate inefficient subordinates then it is going to be mess. Even A good performer will get discouraged and dissatisfied. So dont encourage non performer, boldly tell the guy that you are not in the track. You are not performing well and giving him a good feed back that should expose good leader in you. Ms. Lavanya: Sir, Can you share your thoughts on how the top management should be?
