SYI Student Assistant Job Description General Description: The SYI Student Assistant will report to the SYI

Program Coordinator. The position is collaborative in that the SYI Team works in tandem to develop programs and opportunities for second year undergraduate students to maximize their time during their second year. Duties of the SYI Student Assistant include creating and promoting SYI programs and contributing to the implementation of said programs, while communicating and collaborating with the larger Loyola community.SYI Student Assistants will also be expected to offer input into the development of the outreach and initiatives of the SYI program. Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

Current Loyola Undergraduate Student Attention to detail Ability to communicate with variety of stakeholders, including University leadership, faculty, staff, students, and alumni Flexibility to work some weekends and evenings Sophomore year status or above Work study strongly preferred Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher

SYI Student Worker Employment Philosophy Assisting students in maximizing their second year is the focus of SYIs work. We believe that our student assistants are integral parts of this task and we seek to develop skills within the student assistants that can be passed on to other students and used throughout their lives. Our student assistants serve as the backbone of our department, assisting with program planning on communication across a wide arc of the community. Work Location: 90% in the Center for Student Formation (CFSU LL 42); 10% assisting with various programs across both campuses; there is also a minimal amount of work in the community. Learning & Skill Outcomes, Objectives and Duties:
1. Student Assistants will develop competence in leading the development and implementa-

tion of programs
a. Objective #1 is to develop the ability to plan programs involving many campus

partners

i.

Meet weekly with SYI Coordinator and Graduate Assistant to discuss new and current programmatic initiatives.

ii. Correspond with various campus partners and presenters iii. Reserve rooms iv. Assist with food ordering b. Objective #2 is to develop marketing acumen i.

Draft emails to send to the SYI listserv to promote programs

ii. Create pamphlets and posters for programs iii. Create posters for programs to be hung in CFSU iv. Table for various events v.

Maintain and update website and social media presence

vi. Hang posters around campus at designated program promotion areas c. Objective #3 is to foster an understanding of event implementation i.

Maintaining RSVP lists

ii. Printing nametags iii. Working with other staff on day of event to ensure successful event iv. Assisting with assessment v.

Various administrative tasks as needed

2. Student Assistants will develop an awareness best practices for Second Year Initiatives a. Objective #1 is to build a basic understanding of second year issues i.

Attending staff training in the Fall to ground themselves in issues

ii. Continued research on both the institutional and national levels b. Objective #2 is to foster Ignatian reflection techniques i.

Through attending the weekly staff meetings, students will be given the opportunity to reflect

c. Objective #3 is to apply this knowledge in development of programs i.

Students will regularly describe theories/initiatives that they wish to bring to campus

ii. Students will work with staff in interpreting the assessment data from pro-

grams to develop more effective outreach.
