PROCESS of a DNL GEMSTONE

1. CREATING THE MATRIX - At extreme temperatures, approaching 4000 degrees, we mix a proprietary blend of elements in a very specific sequence and we bring them to a molten state called a matrix. 2. COOLING
- The matrix is then cooled in stages in a carefully controlled fashion. During this cooling process, the crystals form. After the matrix is cooled, the product is called a "boule" which is a solid object containing crystallized and non-crystallized material.

3. EXTRACTION
- The boule is broken up (actually with a big hammer) and the crystals are extracted. At this point, they resemble an uncut, rough diamond crystal.
- The DNL coating is much different from anything else available in the market today, and has been a multi-year development process. The DNL coating material is corundum and other proprietary materials which is substantial, visible under microscopy, and has important measurable physical characteristics. The coating seals the stones surface, greatly lowers porosity, makes the stone impervious to outside contaminants, and increases its hardness. The coating is not fully transparent, and the slight opaque and blue phase shift imparted brings the brilliance and dispersion of the stone almost exactly in line with a natural diamond. Our coating process is extensive, unique to us, and quite expensive.
7. QUALITY CONTROL - Diamond Nexus gemstones

are sorted and graded in the same way as earth-mined diamonds. Each stone is inspected, evaluated, and graded against a perfect control sample. Any gemstones exhibiting defects in cut, color or clarity are rejected. Gemstones are stored in diamond paper until they are sold as loose stones, or set in jewelry.
4. INSPECTION
- The crystals are then inspected for quality in a similar fashion to how rough diamonds are inspected and graded. A laser beam is passed through the crystal which highlights internal flaws and gives a guide for rough cutting.
5. CUTTING - Once rough cutting is complete, the stones are again sorted and moved on to the final cutting stage which is done in our Austrian fine-cutting facility. Because, after rough cutting, our crystals are basically flawless, the cutting process can be much more precise than for a natural diamond (the cutters are not trying to work around and hide flaws). This enables all gem-stones to be cut to Ideal Cut standards, which only about 15% of stones achieve in the diamond world. (This yields the desirable Hearts & Arrows pattern found in the finest cut mined diamonds)

Color describes the amount of color a diamond contains. The color scale ranges from absolutely colorless (D color) which is the most preferred, all the way down to colors that can be quite gray and muddy looking. In addition to white stones, diamonds can come in some pretty intense colors called "fancy colors" which may be yellow, red, pink, blue, and even green. But when most people think of a diamond, they are thinking of the traditional white diamond. All of our stones are D color.

CARAT
Carat is the unit of weight for a diamond. In nature, large diamonds are much rarer than small ones, so they will come with a much higher price tag. A three carat stone may be priced as high as twenty times the price of a one carat stone. MARQUISE CUT - A brilliant cut stone with a unique shape that, like the trillion cut, can maximize carat weight giving you the appearance of a much larger stone. Often set with round or pear shaped side stones, it can lend a slender, long look to the hand.
HEART CUT - The ultimate symbol of love. Its rounded pavilion gives it the heightened brilliance of a round cut gem, while the pointed bottom and curved arches at the top complete the shape with symmetry and romantic sparkle.
PEAR CUT - This popular cut with a single point and rounded end looks like a tear drop. The unique look and the difficulty in executing the cut have long made it a favorite of royalty.
TRIANGLE CUT - A stepped facet cut in the shape of a wedge. Used in a variety of heart-stirring jewelry, but most often commands center stage in ladies pendants.
CUSHION CUT - A romantic antique cut also known as the pillow cut. Popular since 1830, the beauty of this cut is in the depth of the jewel, as well as its luxurious breadth which makes the stone appear larger.
OVAL CUT - Very similar to a round except it is elliptical. Invented in the early 1960s, this shape has a bigger surface area than a round with the same carat weight, and therefore is an excellent option for those looking for the brilliance of the round in a larger size.
ROUND CUT - The most popular, researched, and classic of all cuts. Generally, a 58 facet cut with proportions designed to maximize brilliance and dispersion (fire). When cut to perfect Ideal Cut standards, its the most brilliant of cuts and will show beautiful Hearts & Arrows.
TRILLION CUT - A dazzling and versatile triangle shape with truncated corners. One of the more unusual cuts, it displays a very sharp brilliance. Its large, wellproportioned surface area results in a big look: a one-carat trillion will look as large as a one-anda-half carat round gemstone.
RADIANT CUT - A beautiful combination of the classic elegance of the emerald cut and the sparkle of the round brilliant. Similar to a princess, but with a rectangular outline and blocked corners like those of an emerald cut. The radiant cut is dramatic as a solitaire but also looks great paired with side staging stones such as baguettes, trillions, or princess shapes.
EMERALD CUT - A step cut with broad, flat planed facets. The emerald cut shows less brilliance and dispersion (fire) than the other brilliant cut diamonds, but it has a classic elegance preferred by many. Its large, open table highlights a stones clarity.
ASSCHER CUT - A beautifully unique, antique cut developed in the early 1900s. The beauty of this elegant cut is that it draws the eye deep into the stones center, which is the exact opposite of modern gem cuts in which the facets repel the eye in the name of brilliance.
PRINCESS CUT - Square in shape with pointed corners, this cut is second in popularity to the round brilliant. With 76 facets, it is very brilliant and full of fire. A very popular engagement ring choice.

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT
Scott Faver Jones

Scott Faver Jones was born and raised in Wisconsin. His middle name, which he chose for the name of his jewelry line, was originally his grandmothers maiden name. Fittingly enough, Faver is a surname originating in southern France that refers to a smith or a craftsman. Scott has always been an artist, even since childhood. At Christmas, all my friends got expensive presents, he recalls. My parents did not have the money, so I ended up making most of my toys so I could play with the other (kids). At the age of five or six, he made a crossbow from bits of scrap that he found, which his parents thought was cute until an arrow went through the back door. This sense of creativity and adventure served him well later in life, though, when he began his work in jewelry in the late 1970s, opened his own custom jewelry shop in the 80s, travelled the country as a Master Painter for the Thomas Kindade Co., and later became a Navy photographer for eight years before returning to his love of jewelry design. He has made jewelry for two presidents, (these pieces are currently in the Smithsonian Institution,) two first ladies, and one royal Princess. Scott has been approached many times before about creating his own line of jewelry, and has always declined because he didnt feel comfortable with the people who were offering. But after having worked with Diamond Nexus Labs for awhile and getting to know the company, he finally felt like the time was right. He says, I feel like Im part of the family. The original Faver Collection embraces a distinctly clean, contemporary look. Scotts personal favorite is the Piper, since it took every tool of modern design to create it. It is, as he calls it, simplicity at its finest.

STONES - Almost all Diamond Nexus gemstones are priced at a standard $149 per carat. METAL - The cost of precious metals varies from day to day with the global market. The amount of metal required for your design and the type of metal you select will determine its cost.
