Time Machine

By Bubbles Frinkle
It was too late to know the truth and too late to ever go back to the time where I truly belonged. But it was my choice and everybody has their own choice. I chose this and Ill stand by my word. The night was cold and the summer winds took away with them the summer colors. I sat by our window, trying to figure out why it had to be this way. My family is in another world and Id probably older by my parents now. Wow, for the first time in history, the child is older than her parents. By the way, the name is Belinda Marie. And this is my story. It was a fine drizzly afternoon. The light rain dropped on the ground like a million soft tears. I wasnt contented with the life I have and I wanted more. So I looked forward for more. I opened the door that would lead to the end of my mortality if ever my parents found out I was there. The room was unused for so many years that the cobwebs on the ceiling almost covered the floor with soot. Spiders crawled on the walls. But I hardly paid any attention to the creepy creatures. I sauntered across the room to the old time machine that lay stood on the farthest corner of the room. The first time I went to see it, Mother caught me and scolded me. I told her it was just a toy and it wasnt true that it works. Unfortunately, my Mother didnt believe it was true but she did believe it was covered with hexa powerful, evil curse. I dismissed the topic and never dared to enter the place again. But today, I dared. Not because no one is home but just because to tell myself that it wasnt true, that some part of my imagination just conjured up the doubts that it would work. Ha! As if it was even a true machine in any way! But I still pushed the buttons and when numbered keys appearedto my great surpriseI tapped the numbers 1871. And then there was bright flash of light and I was gone from my own time. That was when I started to believe about the time machine. It really did work because the next time I knew, I was stuck with the Victorian fever around me. Even the women wore tight and heavy dresses. They giggled at the sight of me but I just raised an eyebrow at them. Where are you from, Miss? a pale and elderly lady came up to me. Im from year 2011, I said. Look, I added upon seeing her bemused expression, Im serious. I used this time machine in our house then voila! I was here in an instant. She still stared at me like I was a talking roach. I fought back the urge to roll my eyes. Well, Im here to help you, young lady, she said. And wherever that time machine is right now, Im not sure we could still find it to get you back home. You dont believe me then, I said. Of course I do believe you, she said kindly, looking at me with warm blue eyes. Look at your clothes. They seem like theyre from an alienated planet.

Without another word, I took her hand then went with her. From then on, I never found the time machine again. I stayed in her house and I felt like I was never going to grow any older than thirteen. But guess what I found in a spare room one day. And who knows that Ill find it, anyway? A time machine.
