It Aint Over Yet

Luke 24:21- But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. There are moments in life that mark us. Attention hangs on those moments. Personal, self-appreciation is often tied to them. Public opinion is quite unfairly shaped by them. When those moments are in the public eye, and especially when expectations are high, failure to fulfill desires is unacceptable. All other moments, no matter how great and successful, are forgotten. A floodgate of venomously unkind attacks are poured in heaps upon the one who fell short. Wes Welker knew such a moment. Anyone who watched or followed the events of the Superbowl XLVI know exactly that moment. Wes Welker did the unthinkable. He dropped a critical pass and thus had the weight of a loss focused fully on him. There can be no doubt that Wes Welker has had an outstanding, probably Hall of Fame career as a receiver. In only one of five years with the New England Patriots has he had less than 1000 yards of receiving. In 2011, he had 1569 yards. It should be noted that in that one short yardage year, he had an injury that has often effectively ended such careers. He came back to excellence. He is a talented, and amazing athlete. He dropped a pass. He had caught so many like it that it seemed almost automatic. Still, he dropped that pass and even his detractors were surprised. Fans were destroyed. Expectations were high that he would help save the day. In stead, faith was lost. We were hoping In all likelihood, Wes Welker will continue to have a great career, and more wonderful seasons. To lose sight of the big picture over one dropped pass is not only unfair, it is wrong. It aint over yet. After the crucifixion of Jesus, many disciples thought all hope was lost. They had not seen the big picture. No matter how large the moment may be, we cannot pull it out of context. We may have been hoping for something else. Just wait. There is more to be seen. Russ
