Surrey Neighbouring Faiths Program September 2012 Newsletter

Greetings, I hope this newsletter finds you coping well with the rigors of September! After a relaxing summer, things are up and running in the interfaith community in Surrey. The coming weeks are rich in opportunities to soak your soul in the company of good people doing good things. Theres something for everyone this month! If youve never been out to an interfaith event, now is your chance to pick something that interests you and take a risk. September 11 is a good day to do that. We look forward to getting to know you.

Upcoming Events
September 12 The Annual Human Peace Sign Event Want to be part of a Guinness World Record? Head out to the Cloverdale Millennium Amphitheatre this Wednesday, September 12 at 12:00 to be part of the largest human peace sign! There will be live entertainment and lots of activities for adults and children. An attendance of 6000 will secure a new world record! This event is organized by Kindness is Key. September 16 Reflections of an Interfaith Humanist What is the role of non-theistic traditions like humanism, atheism and secularism in the interfaith movement? I will be presenting a sermon on the topic to the South Fraser Unitarian Congregation this Sunday, 10:30am at the Newton Seniors Centre. All are welcome! September 18 Surrey Interfaith Contemplative Group The emerging Surrey Interfaith Contemplative Group will be hosting a public information and meditation session on September 18, 6:30-8:00 at the Surrey Campus of Simon Fraser University as part of the SFU Public Square event. For more information join the Facebook group or contact David Dalley. All are welcome! September 20 Launch of Surrey Transition Town Initiative The Transition Town Movement is a diverse and inclusive movement that inspires individuals and organizations to take actions that build resilient and truly sustainable communities. If climate change and environmental concerns are part of your spiritual and religious awareness, this is the project for you. Transition town initiatives are intentionally inclusive of diverse worldviews, so all are welcome. The A public information and dialogue session takes place on September 20, 6:30-8:30 at the Surrey Campus of Simon Fraser University as part of the SFU Public Square event. September 22 - Pubic Services Expo at Surrey Central Library The Surrey Neighbouring Faiths Program will have an information booth at the Pubic Services Expo at Surrey Central Library on September 22, 1-4pm. Drop by our booth to say hi or let me know if youd like to help out. September 26 Rebirth of the Interfaith Council of Surrey

The Interfaith Council of Surrey project has been on hiatus for the past year, but the energy is still out there to turn this idea into a reality. On the evening of September 26 we will be re-launching this project with a public dialogue and a special guest performance that you wont want to miss! Save the date and stay tuned for more details.
