Kundankulam protesters take their battle into the sea

Sensex at 7- month high

Mumbai, Sept 13: The Sensex on Thursday managed to hit a seven-month high, the highest intraday level since February. At 12:00 pm, the 30-share index was at 18,054.80, up 41.77 points or 0.30 per cent. The index has touched a high of 18,062.68 and a low of 17,993.97 in trade so far. The NSEs Nifty touched a high of 5,447.45 and a low of 5,425.10 in trade today. BSE rose for a sixth consecutive session, after reforms in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) seem imminent after Thursdays Cabinet meeting.

The police have strengthened its presence in and around the sea shores and the entire Kundankulam town have almost been sealed to prevent any unfortunate incident. The current bout of protest was launched by PMANE to prevent

loading of fuel into the reactor for which Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority has given approval. They also want government to release the protestors already arrested and to drop the plan to arrest their leader SP Udayakumar. In a power-deficit scenario, nuclear energy is critical for Indias economic growth. The country is struggling to meet surging demand for electricity and suffers from a peak-hour power deficit of about 12 per cent.

Day after Benghazi IC-814 hijacker arrested in Kishtwar attack, UStalks tough
Srinagar,September 13: Mehrajuddin alias Javed, a militant suspected to have provided logistical support to the hijackers of IC-814 in 1999, has been nabbed by the J&K police. He had been operating for the last 25 years in the state. A close associate of the United Jihad Council (UJC) chief Syed Salahuddin, Mehrajuddin was arrested during an operation in Kishtwar forest belt, a senior police officer confirmed today. The UJC is an umbrella organisation of various militant outfits. His logistic support was instrumental in the hijacking of the Indian aircraft to Kandahar from Nepal, the officer said. The Indian Airlines plane, with mainly Indians passengers on board, on entering Indian airspace, had been hijacked by the militants to Kandahar in Afghanistan. One passenger was killed by the militants. The suspect belongs to the militancy- affected Sopore town of north Kashmir . He has given details about his relations with Syed Salahuddin and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who figure in the list of 20 most wanted persons that India has given Pakistan. Benghazi, Sept 13:A day after the American Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, and three diplomats were killed when Islamist gunmen attacked the lightly fortified U.S. consulate and a safe house refuge in Benghazi on Tuesday night, US President Barrack Obama vowed to bring justice. Libyan identified assailants as units of a heavily armed local Islamist group, Ansar al-Sharia, which sympathises with al Qaeda and disdain Libya's U.S.-backed bid for democracy. Washington had ordered the evacuation of all U.S. personnel from Benghazi to Tripoli and was reducing staffing in the capital to emergency levels. The U.S. military is moving two Naval destroyers toward the Libyan coast and is dispatching a Marine Corps anti-terrorist security team to boost security in Libya, said an U.S. official. Amidst the tension, Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney accused the Obamas administration of showing weakness in the light of these violent events and jolted the race for the White House. To which, Obama retorted that his rival "seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later. It was a rare day in the U.S. campaign when foreign policy took centre stage instead of the economy.

Bigger, Better, Thinner: The iPhone 5

New York, Sept 13:In the backdrop of its recent win against Samsung regarding the patent suit of its flagship product, technology major Apple on Monday unveiled the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 is set to win the most admiring glances for its design, shape and size while it retains all the classic Apple elements. It has a larger screen, offers 4G connectivity and has a slightly modified design. The new iPhone - the world's thinnest Smartphone at 7.6mm - is constructed exclusively of aluminium and glass, something Apple says is "unlike anything we, or anyone in the industry, has made before." The phone has iOS 6 which brings along with it a wealth of new elements. The iPhone 5 will have redesigned EarPods which will fit better in the consumers ears. The new iPhone is expected to have a nano SIM which will be up to 40 per cent smaller than the previous designs, allowing the phone to be even thinner. Although the screen is the expected 4-inch version the new iPhone s display is not wider than the iPhone 4S. The iPhone 5 will release on September 21. It will be initially available in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Germany with other territories to follow.
