Formula 1 racing and an ancient 3D aircraft are among the innovative digital design themes by Leeds Metropolitan postgraduate students that will go under the public spotlight this week.

The Creative Technology showcase which will incorporate screenings of the students digital video and special effects work, will take place from 2-7pm on Thursday 27 September at Old Broadcasting House in Woodhouse Lane at the Universitys city centre campus.

The event will give both the public and industry experts the opportunity to view the projects and meet the students behind the digital mastery and special effects in the two minute computer generated videos on display.

Student Guru Narayanan used 3D graphics for his project which incorporated a historical theme. He explained: Some researchers, archaeologists and scientists believe there is evidence to suggest that humans achieved flight by aircraft centuries before the modern aircrafts that we know today. So for my postgraduate project I created a 3D graphic depiction of what those said aircrafts could have looked like. Antony Butler, said his work was inspired by racing. The theme of my postgraduate video project is a Formula 1 race in an unusual setting - a living room, he said. Its been created by layering 3D animations, of a miniaturised racetrack and cars, onto a real world video footage of the living room and its

occupants, so that it appears as though the track is weaving in-between the sofas and tables in the room

Computing and Creative Technologies principal lecturer, Brian Larkman, said that between 2-6pm, guided tours will be available at the showcase by appointment to give people the opportunity to talk to the students about their work which will be screened on Apple iMacs. A reception with refreshments will be held between 6-7pm.

Students exhibiting come from Masters courses including MSc Games Design, MSc Digital Imaging and Creative Visualisation, MSc Digital Video and Special Effects, MSc Computer Animation and MSc Creative Technology.
