Field Fisher Waterhouse and the BetaGroup Coworking would like to propose you a series of training sessions covering practical legal issues for start-ups with a particular emphasis on the internet and web industry. The purpose is to provide the participants with a basic knowledge of essential legal issues in the following key legal fields: corporate, IT, IP and commercial contracts. Each session conducted in English will address a specific topic and will be presented by lawyers specialised in their field. The presentations will be to the point, non-academic and will handle the subject with pragmatic approach, based on previous experience. The sessions will take place at Field Fisher Waterhouse, Bd Louis Schmidt, 29 (next to the ICAB) and will start at 6:30 pm and will last approximately 25 minutes. They will be followed by a Q&A and a drink where you will be able to ask your questions and share experiences with speakers and participants. Since most of the start-up companies will be using or even producing open source content (software or even music, pictures and content), we propose to explore the basic principles behind open licenses. There has already been several decision by european courts in this area and we can briefly take a look at them to illustrate in a very practical way the risks associated with the use of open content when you do not comply with the licenses.
About the speaker: Hakim specialises in contentious and noncontentious intellectual property and IT law. He assists clients in drafting and negotiating IT agreements (licensing, consulting & outsourcing). He also assists research-driven undertakings on R&D and technology transfer agreements. Prior to joining the bar, Hakim worked for three years as an in-house counsel at the technology transfer office of the Univerity of Namur where he was in charge of licensing agreements and spin-off companies.

He has a particular interest in privacy challenges relating to digital technologies and services (RFID, cloud computing, cookies etc.). His past secondments to different enterprises helped him to better understand the practical needs of the industry.
