Fall is a very interesting time of year. In places, other than Florida, you get to see, witness, and experience, a very real changing of the seasons. You see the leaves change into a wonderful kaleidoscope of colors. The oranges, yellows, and reds, can be simply breathtaking! For the two years Debbie and I lived in Kentucky, we could see this change in certain places and it was gorgeous. I have heard others of you talk about going north just for the changing of the leaves. This visual change leads a wonderful assault on the senses that leaves a permanent impression. But this is just the beginning. The temperatures begin to dip, giving us that first taste of relief from the heat of summer. It triggers within most people the anticipation of great weather and highly anticipated activities; like football, pumpkins, and fall festivals. All of these create a heightened fervor for this time of year. But, fall is also a time for rebirth. It is in this season that many plants drop seeds to be reborn another day. I want to share with you the chorus of a song by Carrie Newcomer, entitled Leaves Dont Drop, They Just Let Go. Leaves dont drop they just let go, and make a space for seeds to grow. Every season brings a change, a tree is what a seed contains, to die to live is lifes refrain. As I listen to this song I am struck by several questions. What leaves do I need to let go? What habits or burdens or grudges, do I need to let drop and fall away from me? What things am I holding onto that are causing a divide between the person I am now, and the person God created me to be? After I heard this song for the first time, I went outside. I took a journal and I sat. I took time to allow myself to feel the rhythm of creation as I let it wash over me. I did not try to think or analyze. I just sat. I was still. I was vulnerable. I wanted to hear what the Holy Spirit would tell me. I sat for a while. Then, I began to write. I wrote what I was feeling. I wrote what ever came to my mind. I have leaves I need to let go. We all do. We all struggle with some burden in our lives that creeps up at various frequencies causing hurt feelings, harsh words to leave our lips, all decaying the bridge between us and our fellow believersbetween us and our grace-filled Creator. Friends, I want to extend an invitation to you. I invite you to find some time, all of you, to meditate on the words of Ms. Newcomers song. I urge you to unplug from the demands on your time, and just sit. Allow this creation and these words to wash over you. (continued on page 3)

Prayer serves as the backbone of the church. It is what supports all our efforts of ministry. In that spirit, you are invited to hold these persons in your prayers and thoughts. Just as the Spirit needs healing, so does the body. The two, it seems, go together in Gods plan. Give yourself the grace to just exist. Try not to think, try not to force anything. Just be still. Quiet. Allow whatever happens to happen. Give yourself the gift of this experience to begin the process of rebirth within you. Our God is awesome at redemption and taking circumstances and situations and bringing good from within them, no matter the obstacles. Sit with God. Allow God to show you any leaves you have that can be let go. All so that a seed can be planted within you. A seed that will grow for the glory of the One that loved us first.

Blessings,

FLU SHOT CLINIC Mark your calendars for our Flu Shot Clinic on Sunday, October 7 from 11:30 am to 1 pm in the Library. This is open to the public, so please invite your friends. We need as much participation as possible, so I can continue to bring this flu clinic to our church. I have a sign-up sheet at the Connection Station. As the date gets closer, I will have more information available. If you have any questions, please contact me. Joyce Baugher, RN - Parish Nurse

PUMPKINS! PUMPKINS! PUMPKINS! News from Roy The pumpkins are coming!!!! We expect our first delivery on Tuesday, October 9 at 4 PM and we need everyone who is able to help unload. Remember some lifting is required. HOWEVER, we have lots of jobs for those unable to lift, so come and have fun and enjoy some refreshments. We also need sellers and story tellers, sign-up at the Connection station. This is the churchs fundraiser and lets all be part of it. The second load will arrive October 16 at 4 PM. There will be a Pumpkin Patch workday on Saturday, October 6th at 9 AM.

Story Teller News The pumpkins are coming! The pumpkins are coming! And so are the kids! And we need story tellers! The pumpkins will arrive on October 9, and the stories will start on October 15. Every year we host preschoolers and kindergarteners from all over Marion County. They come between 9:30 and 11:30 am. We read stories to them and they play in the patch. This is one of the most rewarding events at the Pumpkin Patch. A lot of these kids have never been to a patch, theyve never sat on a hay bale and a lot of them have never seen a Little Red Wagon. We provide the books and you provide the voice. If this is a ministry you would enjoy, please contact Terri Silvola-Finch at 369-0614.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Dear friend...This year we anticipate reaching an important milestone in the history of Operation Christmas Child - 100 million gift-filled shoe boxes since 1993! Your shoe boxes represent more than smiles and laughter; they become Gospel opportunities that open doors to share the love of Jesus Christ with children and their families around the world. We give God all the praise and look forward to the best Operation Christmas Child season ever! Franklin Graham, President, Samaritans Purse Please see Libby Orbison if you do not have an empty shoe box. Included with your shoe box will be a leaflet that explains what items to pack. All shoe boxes must be returned to Druid Hills UMC no later than November 12. If you do not want to pack a shoe box, you can make a donation to DHUMC to cover the postage needed to mail the shoe boxes.

We need volunteers to be on our team and everyone to help raise money to fight this disease and help patients here in Ocala. Karen Murray and I will be attending the first meeting on Oct. 23 to begin plans for the event in May. Please be ready to sign-up and help our team. Please remember that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Thank you, Ann McMurrer

THE SCOUTING SIDE

Pack 112 Pack 112 is off to a good start. We have a good-sized group of boys and leaders, and the dens are keeping busy. We had Round Up at South Ocala at the end of August, which was well-attended, and weve had several families who have just stopped by Druid Hills to learn more about our Pack. We are looking forward to our Car Wash fundraiser, which is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27 from 9 am to 2 pm in the Druid Hills parking lot. We are also looking forward to the District Cuboree Family Campout the weekend of Oct. 19-21. Our first Pack meeting will be Oct. 29, so we are excited about all the fun next month!. If you have any questions about Cub Scout Pack 112, please call me at 804-1193. Kelsey Burnette Troop 425 Troop 425 is on a journey to discovering what they are able to accomplish when given a task. The girls are preparing for their first two night camping trip at Camp Wildwood. They will plan a budget for their menu, learn how to pack efficiently, plan their trip according to safety guidelines and figure out sleeping arrangements and cleaning duties. We will also be attending a flag retirement ceremony which is a rare opportunity. Jen Althiser
