Crisis Management Plan

A look at the CMS Plan for School Fires --Judith Malveaux, multimedia specialist

Looked at existing Crisis Management Plan

More than 100 pages, not including other documents Last updated in 2007

Crisis Management Plan

Using ideas from our crisis communications guests and the text, I noted the following:
Ranges from what would be considered minor incidents, such as school bus accident to catastrophic incidents, such as tornadoes, deaths on campus, etc.
Too broad Some things not crises if encountered daily

Crisis Management Plan

A need to focus on events that we have not encountered or do not encounter regularly

Crisis Management Plan

I chose an event I have not (yet) experienced and looked up how other districts handle the event. I looked at what we currently had in place to handle a student fire.

Crisis Management Plan

I deleted many pages that address things such as What a crisis is and definitions of things that I was advised by law enforcement and school staff its not important in the time of a school fire.
I plan to extend this plan to other major crises, as I consult with districts that have handled them and update the plan to reflect those changes.

Crisis Management Plan

I also plan to modify it, so that it is tailored to each team members needs.
