Objective (s) Here is the scenario: You are the director of athletics at a large southwestern Division I university. You took over in 2004 after the former A.D. left to take a job closer to her family back east. In the short time you have been at the helm, U of X has seen its annual operating budget rise from $68 million to $75 million. Additionally during your tenure, you oversaw the renovation of the stadiumincluding expanding the luxury suits and adding 5500 seats in the north end zone, as well the construction of indoor batting cages for the baseball team and a repaving of the track and expansion of the womens soccer locker rooms. Most importantly, you spearhead the capital campaign, Focused on the Future: U of X, the Leaders of Now, which raised $157 million over 3 years. This money will be used for improve the practice facilities of all your 21 varsity sports. The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) named you southeastern region AD of the year last year. Unfortunately, your department was recently hit with an academic scandal. In this assignment, you are tasked with delivering a speech to the Faculty Senate at your university, a group of people immensely dedicated to academics and, now following the academic scandal, jaded toward and frustrated with athletics. In your speech, I am looking for you to do three key things: Outline the academic scandal and place this scandal in its appropriate context. In other words, is this scandal unique to your school or are other schools dealing with this same challenge? (hint, this is the they say section).

Outline all the major stakeholders in this scandal and how you plan on dealing with this situation with these stakeholders. You should, of course, spend the most time talking about faculty as stakeholders and how you plan on rectifying the situation in their eyes. Give hope for the future! Why should we (the people of U of X) still put money toward athletics even with this academic scandal? What does athletics do, intangibly or tangibly for the U of X?
