Important term 4 and concert information

1. PHOTOS All students have the opportunity to purchase individual and group photos in costume. These photos will be taken in class during the LAST WEEK OF TERM (which is December 3,4,5)., apart from the Thursday 4pm groups which will be scheduled on Thursday November 29th. Please ensure students are in full costume, with hair of performance quality and make up applied at the commencement of their class (therefore student will need to prepare at home at least half an hour prior to the commencement of their class) Classes will run as usual, and individual photos will be taken during class time. Can I please ask parents not to accompany students into the photo area; there will be people on hand to assist. Monday 3 and 4 year old ballet class: please be prepared for these photos to go over time. You may like to give yourself an extra half hour before leaving the dance studio, as there will be two classes running and students are very young. Photos will be available to purchase at the concert. 2. TINKERBELLS (4.14 Monday and 4.00 Tuesday ballet classes) As these students are so very young, we do not want to wear them out, therefore these students will only perform at one concert. The Tuesday ballet class will perform on Saturday December 8th at 7pm and the Monday ballet class will perform on Sunday December 9th at 1pm. Please remember this when purchasing your tickets. 3. TICKET SALES Please remember that tickets go on Sale on Melbourne Cup Day. If you want good seats, they usually sell fairly quickly. To avoid badly placed seats, please ensure that you get down to the Paramount to purchase your tickets on or close to Melbourne Cup Day. (Please remember that the seats closest to the stage are not the best seats to purchase, as it is more difficult to have an all-embracing sense of performance. To enjoy the full depth of performance the seats from the second third of the theatre are the best seats to be immersed in a more rounded and complete sense of theatre and performance. 4. DROP OFFS AND PICK UPS at CONCERT: I feel it necessary to start teaching students the correct procedure right from the start, which may be quite foreign to you if you have not been involved in theatre before. As a general rule of thumb, dancers should never be seen in costume other than on stage. A student should never be in the foyer in costume, or outside the theatre.

Theatre etiquette expects performers to enter and exit only through the Stage Door, which is located at the back of the Paramount. DROP OFF: Ballet students: Please arrive with your child 1 hour prior to the start of the show. Ensure that your childs name is marked off the list prior to leaving the back stage area. Jazz Students: Please arrive at interval (about 50 minutes after the start of the show) Students should have make up and hair done, with their costume on underneath a jacket or dressing gown. We feel that this is will be better so that our supervisors will not need to change students in the crowded back stage dressing rooms. All students should have a case which with a towel, shoes, spare clothes, hairbrush and hair accessories and any other extra costumes/make up required for performance. Please have the childs suitcase named! It is advised to pack an extra pair of underwear for junior students, please. Due to lack of room and child safety, unauthorized parents are not permitted back stage or in any change rooms, this is not negotiable. Jacqui will have parents, friends, and senior students: all very capable and used to working backstage with children on hand. PICK UP: If your child is only in the first half of the program, prior to interval, she/he will need to be picked up at interval, due to the lack of space back stage and in change rooms. Please return to the Stage door and give the supervisor your name and your childs name. If students wish to watch the second half of the show they will need to purchase a ticket, as it is against safety regulations to have students sitting in the aisles at the Paramount. Please check with the Theatre if your child is not too big if you wish for them to be seated on your lap. All primary aged ballet and contemporary students will need to be picked up at interval unless they are in jazz. All Tinker bells will be able to sit with me side stage to watch the performances up until interval, and then their supervisors will take them back to their change room to put on their dressing gowns or coats and take them to the back stage area ready to be collected by a parent or guardian. All students names must be marked off the role when collected. 5. BUDDIES Each tinker bell has a senior buddy. Your daughters buddy will meet her when she arrives and take her to meet the supervisor. 6. HAIR As usual, all classical ballet students must have their hair pulled back in a very neat and tidy bun with no wisps of hair about their faces. The hair must be neatened down with hair spray or gel and they will all require a fine hair net over their buns. The place of the bun is at the back of the head; the middle of the bun should be in line with the top of their ears. Jazz, Hip-Hop and contemporary students will be instructed as to their hair requirements closer to their performance. 2

7. MAKE-UP Girls: Where traditional ballet makeup is required keep in mind that the brows need a little more enhancements and extending. Eyeliner will need to be extended a bit further at the ends. Dont meet the lower and upper lines at the sides. I like to use a brown cake/shadow liner below lower lashes and a black cake/shadow liner at the end of upper lashes to create a softer look. Keep eyes wide with white pencil in between. Add a little white shimmer to the centre of lid, brow arch and inner eye corner to open eyes even more. False lashes will be a must to create big elegant eyes (see photo), but this is only for the senior students. Adding a bit of magical glimmer to the cheekbones and eyes can really create more enchantment.

8. REHEARSALS Every student in the concert must be at rehearsals at the Paramount on Thursday December 6th, without exception. Students must be in full costume, make up and hair requirements as there will be more photos taken on that day. This is a full dress rehearsal as well as a lighting rehearsal; therefore the students must be prepared just as they will be on concert night. Students must enter through the stage door, as expected on concert night. Please have students ready, in costume, with their jacket or dressing gown over their costumes, just as they will be at the concert. Parents are not permitted back stage, thank you. Rehearsal timetable below: 4-5.30pm 5.30-6.30pm 6.30-8pm All classical ballet students All contemporary students All Jazz and Hip Hop students

If your child is at the theatre for an amount of time, please ensure that she has a drink bottle and a snack. Please do not bring take away food into the theatre. It is most important that students do not miss the rehearsal, as they need to be aware of their surroundings, and they must know where to enter and exit the stage area. There will be lights constructed on the sides of the stage that students must be aware of, and if they miss the rehearsal they will not be prepared for this. The ease and flow of the evening, for both audience members and performers will only occur through thorough planning, rehearsal and knowledge of what is expected and existing. Therefore, please ensure your child is at the theatre on time and ready to rehearse. 9. CONCERT DATES Saturday December 8th show starts at 7pm Sunday December 9th -show starts at at 1pm 10. Video and Photos at the Paramount Video and flash photography is not permitted at the Concert, as this can be very distracting for your young children as well as other audience members nearby. Please avoid the disappointment of being asked to leave the theatre if this occurs. There will be photos and a professional video offered for purchase. MELBOURNE CUP DAY CLASSES ARE NOT CANCELLED 11. Please remember that all classical ballet students in Peter Pan, apart from the Tinker bell group are required to source their own costume (as most students purchased tutus for the Eisteddfods.) Indians must have a Bow and a Bow Holder on their backs, Lost Boys can wear animal hats if they wish (with torn/ragged looking skirt or pants and a similar top) and Pirates must have a sword. All students must have leotards and tights underneath their costumes please. These items will be required for the photographs on the last week of term, and will be required for rehearsing ASAP, thanks. 12. FacebookPlease look out for my new Facebook. I have never used Facebook, so I will have to get Holly to help me!. The page will hopefully be called i-Dance Echuca. As so many mums have been mentioning that they use this, and you often have many questions, I though I could try to post most of my information there for you to view at your convenience. 13. New email address 14. BALLARAT EISTEDDFOD A huge congratulations to the Senior Jazz and Senior Contemporary i-Dance students who performed at the Royal South Street Eisteddfods during the last weekend of the holidays. They should all be very proud of their performance, have a look on WinkiPoP media to view the photos! 15. 2013 senior jazz and contemporary i-Dance has decided that to strengthen senior students, we really need an hour and a half for jazz and contemporary classes in 2013, so as not to drag behind their peer group (and students that are thinking about furthering their dance path will be more prepared). Therefore the fee for this class will be more than the usual price. I realize that this is quite difficult for some people, therefore I am also offering students the chance to do just the one hour, which would then mean that students would not be strong enough to participate in some dance phrases during routines. Can you please fill out the form and pass it back to Jacqui next week, so that I can get an idea of how many students are interested in participating in the hour and a half class.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------My daughter. Will participate in the: 1 hour/1 hour (please circle) class in her contemporary/jazz lesson. Signed: Further for your notes if required: Date:..

16. Community Events Again this year we have been asked to be a part of the Community Fun Day for the One and All fundraising event to help promote and celebrate inclusion within the community. This will be held on November 25th, with some dance items from i-Dance Echuca! I will keep you posted if you are to perform, but please come along to support this wonderful fundraiser! i-Dance has also been invited to participate and perform at the Rochester Festival which is to be held on November 18th. Again I will let you all know if you will be performing at this event, come along, support your fellow students and support this wonderful day in Rochy! 17. Term 3 Student of the term We have two brothers that are our students of the term for this term, Rory and Lucca Van de Zand. We awarded two this term as both of the brothers are very generous with their manners, very kind to the other students and they offer 100% dedication toward learning and understanding their chosen dance styles of Hip-Hop and Contemporary. Congratulations Lucca and Rory!
