BOMBA DO HEMETRIO Cultural Hub is a real tourist destination. It was developed to strengthen the network of existing products and services inthat community, with a purpose to trade and operate through partner entrepreneurs, ensuring sustainability for small businesses. It demonstrates their local identity and culture, translated into several languages of art that Sebrae not only supports, but also endorses the local development, mobilization and community organization initiatives. Community based tourism provides experiences that allow the visitor to become familiar with the practices and symbols from urban territories. Experiences and traditions must be treasured tostrengthen the manifestations of the local culture. Sebraes role in adding culture to the economic development is promising, through the prioritization of actions that focus on the inclusion of the local culture into services and products, from micro and small companies. And thats only the beginning.

A trAnsFOrmAO da comunidade da Bomba do Hemetrio, outrora bairro representativo de desigualdades sociais e de renda, no aconteceu por acaso. Por mais que j existissem movimentos de cooperao e organizao local, a chegada doPrograma Bombando cidadania1 foi determinante na articulao de polticas pblicas voltadas para valorizar a cultura da regio enquanto elemento de empreendedorismo e cidadania. somaram-se esforos em direo aodesenvolvimento cultural comunitrio da Bomba do Hemetrio e, juntos, instituto Walmart, sebrae, instituto de Assessoria para o desenvolvimento Humano (iAdH), ministrio do turismo e lideranas daregio implementaram o Projeto de roteirizao turstica da Bomba do Hemetrio, de modo afortalecer os grupos artsticos locais e a economia do bairro, buscando-se melhorar a qualidade de vida dos seus moradores. no deu outra. Osresultados so expressivos do ponto de vista de uma gesto empreendedora que comea a despontar na comunidade com o emblema dasolidariedade, como nos tempos da distribuio de gua da bomba de seu Hemetrio.

THE TRAnSfORMATIOnS in Bomba do Hemetrio community, formerly a neighborhood that represented social and financial inequalities, did not happen by chance. Even though there were already local movements of organization and cooperation, the coming of Programa Bombando cidadania (Pumping Citinzenship Program) was crucial for the development of public policies made to value the culture of that region as an element ofentrepreneurship and citizenship. The joint efforts for the community cultural development of Bomba do Hemetrio were performed by instituto Walmart (Walmart Institute), sebrae, instituto de Assessoria para o desenvolvimento Humano iAdH (Human Development Consultancy Institute) and Ministry of Tourism. Regional leaders implemented Projeto de roteirizao turstica da Bomba do Hemetrio (Bomba do Hemetrio Touristic Itinerary Project), in order to strengthen the local artistic groups and the local economy, bringing a better quality of life for its inhabitants. The outcomes expressed the enterprising management standpoint, which started the rise of the community of solidarity during the old times of water distribution from Mr. Hemetrios pump.

DEfInInG SUCH A UnIQUE and at the same time diverse neighborhood is not an easy task. Everything is artistical, generous and singular in Bomba do Hemetrio. Because it is the region that best defines the traditional culture of Recife, tourists and visitors come to it more and more often, eager to find out the secrets and details that come out simply by walking its streets, slopes and brooks. The solidarity of the locals is its trademark. As the example of Mr. Hemetrio, a former local that used to open his house in the past to his neighbors to give them the access to the only one water pump available in the surrounding area. This is the origin of those people. Synonymous with rhythms, dances, ethnicities and artistic languages, the Pump is pumping today (Bomba t bombando). Most of its 12500 inhabitants are under 30 years of age and they add value to it in all senses knowledge, conventional wisdom and social inclusion. The tourist activities and itineraries presented here are the part of circuito Bomba cultural (Cultural Pump Circuit). This initiative offers organized tours to the cultural attractions of the neighborhood and its surroundings, and it was restructured after the mobilization and qualification of artists, cultural groups, handicraftsmen and microentrepreneurs in the fields of gastronomy and receptive tourism. They will be the references for leisure, cultural and gastronomic alternatives. There are troas (regional bands), clubs, maracatus, afoxs, caboclinhos, bois, ursos, coco, samba, forr, food, handcraft, worship places, centennial guilds, popular masters, different artists and much more. And following that proposal, they reveal their themes, costumes, adornments, baianas (Bahian AfricanBrazilian ladies), mestres-sala (male cortsy), portasbandeira (female flag holder), and tell their history in a joyful performance to tourists and visitors. A troa Abanadores do Arruda uma verdadeira prova de amor cultura de raiz e ao frevo pernambucano. no por acaso, os cenrios efigurinos da atividade so convidativos. tudo para o turista entrar literalmente na magia da dana. no h quem resista s belas composies domestre do frevo Jos constantino, oumesmo ao entusiasmo e alegria de dona Auzira, presidente da famosa agremiao do recife, fundada em 1934. Palavra de reis e rainhas. A sede do Abanadores do Arruda um tpico ambiente de dana de salo, com cenrios e figurinos apropriados para a atividade. Aagremiao apresenta-se uma vez por ms (ora sbados, s 19 horas; ora domingos, s 16 horas), durante 45 minutos. de lembrana, osturistas levam abanadores artesanais para casa.

troa Abanadores do Arruda is a real proof of love to the traditional culture and Pernambucos frevo. not by chance, their scenarios and costumes are inviting. It is all made for the tourists to literally get into the magic of the dance. no one can resist the beautiful songs from the frevo master, Jos Constatino, or even the enthusiasm and cheerfulness of Ms. Auzira, president of this famous guild from Recife, founded in 1934. Kings and queens swear by it. Abanadores do Arruda headquarters is a typical ballroom dance environment, with sceneries and costumes specially designed for it. The guild performs once a month (on Saturdays at 07:00pm or on Sundays, at 04:00 pm), for 45 minutes. As asouvenir the tourists take home handcrafted fans.

Under the sign of regional wealth and cultural diversity, the group joins the neighborhood movements and all artistic segments to get stronger and grow. The tourists participate in everything: the rhythms of frevo, maracatu, coco and mangue beat. And they marvel at the show of movements, colors and joy. Bombagu is without a doubt a beautiful landmark of Bomba do Hemetrio and its peculiarities. Bombagu is not only the fantastic animal from the popular universe. Jaragu da Bomba puts concept and changing attitude togheter. The diversity of the show from the universidart group is impressive. The performance lasts 30 minutes and takes place once a month, on Saturdays or Sundays, at 04:00pm. They hand out prizes and spread excitement

na apresentao do Boi mimoso que as ruas e oscrregos da comunidade se transformam empura alegria. A brincadeira do boi atrai crianas, jovens e tambm adultos para o universo mgico de matheus, catirina, Bastio, ema e Babau, s para citar alguns dos personagens mais irreverentes da agremiao que muito valoriza as danas emsicas populares. sem dvida, esta atividade garantia de cultura, educao e cidadania. A apresentao do Boi mimoso envolve vrios personagens que se revezam em encenaes caricatas para fazer valer a brincadeira. Oespetculo mensal, realizando-se sempre aos sbados, s 18 ou 19 horas. H degustao de tapioca com caf para os visitantes.

The streets and brooks of the community become pure joy during the performance of Boi mimoso. Children, teenagers and adults come to play with the boi (ox), attracted to the magical universe of Matheus, Catirina, Bastio, Ema and Babau, just to mention some of the most irreverent characters from this guild that treasures the dances and popular music. There is no question that this activity embodies culture, education and citizenship to all of its participants. Boi mimosos performance is filled with characters that take turns into ludicrous stagings worth playing along. This monthly performance takes place on Saturdays, at 06:00 or 07:00pm. tapioca and coffee are served for visitors.

A apresentao de cada personagem rica em improvisos, adereos efantasias. O envolvimento de crianas e jovens dacomunidade no cortejo provoca muita emoo e enriquece ainda mais o espetculo. O Boi malab sai em cortejo, aos sbados edomingos, contando a histria do bumba meu boi. Arrasta muitas crianas na brincadeira, tamanha a animao. A atividade dura uma hora, em mdia, atraindo diversos turistas pela fora da sua cultura e pela riqueza dos seus personagens. Ogrupo sempre se apresenta s 16 horas.

It is said in Bomba do Hemetrio, that Boi Malabs procession on the streets of the neighborhood is more than involving. It makes locals and tourists cry. Each characters performance is filled with improvisations, adornments and costumes. The children and teenagers from the community are involved in the procession, bringing a great deal of emotion, which enriches the show even more. Boi malab goes on procession every Saturday and Sunday, telling the bumba meu boi story. It is so full of excitement that a lot of children go there to play. The performance lasts about one hour and attracts many tourists because of the strength of its culture and the richness of its characters. The group always performs at 04:00pm.

Visitar o Ateli Arte sousa significa botar amo na massa. l que o arteso edilson conta sua histria e mostra seu trabalho, realizado com material reciclado a partir de referncias da cultura local o boizinho de carnaval pode ser confeccionado em biscuit pelo visitante e levado de lembrana para casa. O arteso edilson entra em ao s quintas esextas-feiras, das 14:30 s 16 horas. no ateli do artista, possvel fazer peas de artesanato inspiradas na cultura local. A visitao dura, em mdia, 45 minutos de pura arte.

Criando e recriando (Creating and re-creating)

Visiting Arte sousa Studio means hands-on activities. There, the handicraftsman Edilson tells his history and shows his work, made of recycled material, using references to the local culture - the carnival little ox can be made out of biscuit by the visitor and can be taken home as a souvenir. Edilson, the handicraftsman, works there on Thursdays and fridays, from 02:30 pm until 04:00pm. In his studio, people can create handicraft inspired on the local culture. The visitors have the opportunity to enjoy about 45 minutes of pure art.

Grupo Omobirim
msica e dana no faltam na apresentao doOmobirim. Quem garante o prprio grupo afro, que vem realizando, com xito, um trabalho social com jovens e crianas da comunidade. durante a atividade, o visitante poder danar e tocar instrumentos com os jovens, alm de adquirir adereos, bijuterias e instrumentos percussivos, degustando frutas e sucos da poca. a cultura afro como ferramenta de transformao de umpovo. na sede do Omobirim que, s teras e quintas, aatividade acontece. seus integrantes encarregam-se de animar a festa, que comea s 19 horas edura, aproximadamente, 45 minutos. H brindes (turista Omobirim) artesanais confeccionados pelas talentosas jovens da comunidade, entregues aos visitantes no encerramento do espetculo.

Emoes afro (Afro emotions)

Omobirim Group
Music and dance are abundant during Omobirims performance. Thats the promise of this afro group. The group develops a successful social work with children and teenagers from the community. During this activity, the visitors can dance and play instruments along with the teens, besides buying adornments, jewelry and percussion instruments. They can also eat native fruit and drink juice. That is the afro culture being used as a tool to people transformation. The activities take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at Omobirims location. Their members are in charge to liven up the party. It starts at 07:00pm and lasts about 45 minutes. Hadicrafted prizes (Omobirim tourist) made by the talented young girls from the community are given to the visitors at the end of the show.

Ouvi-la contar a histria da origem da agremiao fundada em 1906 algo mgico e encantador. coisa de mestre. na verdade, a atividade uma volta ao passado e aos valores de um movimento cultural forte e significativo para um povo. O grupo maracatu estrela Brilhante apresenta-se uma vez por semana para osturistas e a comunidade em geral, durante 50minutos aproximadamente. Ao som do rico batuque dos tambores, eles chegam at aparticipar da atividade de forma ativa.

Her wisdom is endless. listen to her tell the history of the origin of this guild founded in 1906 is magical and lovely. Masterpiece. Alm disso, visitar a exposio defantasias, adereos, artesanato e souvenirs pode ser um timo pretexto para encerrar o programa. O toque do baque virado do maracatu o ponto alto da atividade. emociona espectadores de todas as partes. trata-se de uma excelente opo assistir os jovens da comunidade exalando talento e vigor cultural. O grupo pode ser visto quinzenalmente, aos sbados e domingos, s 16 horas.

Maracatu Encanto da Alegria (Delight of Joy)
As suggested by its name (Delight of Joy, in English), maracatu encanto da Alegria is all about culture, seduction and happiness. And it is also a social project for teenagers and children. During this activity, tourists will be able to experience the different artistic manifestations from the AfricanBrazilian rhythms, specially the baque virado, led by young people from the community. Besides, visiting the costume, adornment, handicraft and souvenir exhibit may be a great idea before leaving. Maracatus baque virado rhythm is the highlight of the activity. Spectators from everywhere get a thrill. It is an excellent opportunity to watch young people from the community exhale talent and cultural vigor. The group performs every 15 days, on Saturdays and Sundays at 04:00 oclock.

A visita ao stio de Pai Ado inesquecvel. tombado pelo governo do estado de Pernambuco e legtimo representante da nao nag emPernambuco, l se encontram a capela de santa ins, a rvore sagrada (iroc) que guarda os segredos daancestralidade africana e o quilombo urbano dos parentes afrodescendentes de Pai Ado. nesta atividade, as atraes secomplementam: do lado religioso, o terreiro Ob Ogunt; dolado cultural, o maracatu razes de Pai Ado. Avisita contempla ainda a degustao de comida africana e a venda de artesanato local. este maracatu responsvel pelo lendrio encontro. O grupo apresenta-se todos os dias, s 16 horas (ou em outro horrio previamente agendado), durante uma hora. O stio sagrado serve de palco para uma apresentao rica em histria e cultura.

Visiting Pai Ados farm is unforgettable. Recognized by the Government of the State of Pernambuco as a legitimate representative of the nag nation in Pernambuco, there you will find the santa ins Chapel, the sacred tree (iroc) - it keeps the secrets of the African ancestry - and the urban quilombo from Afro descendant relatives of Pai Ado. In this activity the attractions complement each other: Ob Ogunt worship place is the religious side and maracatu razes de Pai Ado is the cultural side. The visit also includes tasting of African food and sales of local handcrafted items. This maracatu is the one responsible for the legendary meeting. The group performs everyday, at 04:00pm (or at a previously scheduled time). The presentation lasts one hour. The sacred farm is the stage for this historically and culturally rich performance.

A imaginao o limite nesta atividade. ento no se surpreenda se for recepcionado por lampio, maria Bonita e diversos cangaceiros na Bomba do Hemetrio. e com muita msica e dana tpica, em especial o xaxado, ritmo preferido do bando para celebrar suas vitrias econquistas em pleno serto pernambucano. A cia de dana traando cultura responde pela apresentao da atividade, sempre no primeiro e ltimo sbado do ms, preferencialmente nos finais de tarde. so 40 minutos de espetculo, com entrega de um brinde artesanal alusivo ao cangao.

Have you ever thought about the possibility of entering the cangao (regional social banditry) world and, even better, being part of it? Right. Imagination is the limit here. So dont be surprised if lampio, Maria Bonita and other members of their gang come to welcome you in Bomba do Hemetrio. And they come with a lot of typical music and dance, especially xaxado, their favorite rhythm to celebrate their victories and accomplishments in Pernambuco backlands. traando cultura Dance group is responsible for this activity that takes place on the first and last Saturday of the month, usually in the late afternoon. The show lasts 40 minutes and people receive prizes related to cangao.

The history of senhoras do bem is an example of entrepreneurship in Bomba do Hemetrio. As the creators of the group that manufactures Ecobem Soap, they tell visitors about curiosities from the past and the present, and also about the process they use to produce the soap out of used cooking oil. In the end, tea and cookies are served while people listen to poetry, and the visitors can also see the product displays (paste and bar soaps). senhoras do bem is a group made of housewives and they open their soap factory for visitors twice a week (on Mondays and Wednesdays), from 02:00pm to 05:00pm.

To the sound of drums and resistance shoutings, Bacnar translates the true Africa that lives in Brazil. Synonymous of culture, dances and rhythms that take visitors back to Mother Africa, the group came to life after a broad research and study on black culture. led by Master Ubiracy, a great reference of black culture in Pernambuco, the show is unique in all senses. The visit includes degustation of AfricanBrazilian food, exhibition and sales of handcrafted products, besides prize distribution at the end of the show. Bal cultura negra do recife, best known as Bacnar, is of historical nature and their work is internationally known. The dancers perform on the first Saturday and Sunday of the month, at 04:00pm, treasuring the legitimate black culture in Pernambuco. Its a 45 minute activity, showing the best of African-Brazilian dance.

A participao espontnea de turistas na atividade praticamente obrigatria. sempre s quartas-feiras, s 19 horas, ogrupo Boi dloucos apresenta, no cantinho do rio, o espetculo teatral um boi muito louco. A atividade, que dura meia hora, conta com a participao de visitantes, alm da comunidade em geral.

The actors versatility, with musical and theatrical performances followed by popular poetry, catch the attention of the audience from the beginning to the end. Spontaneous participation of tourists is practically mandatory in this activity. Boi Dloucos Group performs the play um boi muito louco on Wednesdays, at 07:00pm, at Cantinho do Rio. The play lasts thirty minutes and visitors and members of the community participate in it.
