Investigate Maximum 6 points (Make a document in Google Docs (firstinitial_lastinitial_Investigate_Eportfolio) which will show evidence of the required below, when completed, you will embed it into your Technology Blog) DUE October 26th @ 5pm Task 1: World Worst Web Sites. Check out the websites below. Does your E-Portfolio resemble these awful sites? One Two Three Four Five Six Chose 3 of the sites and find 5 design elements that need to be improved. Explain why each design element is poor and how they could be fixed. http://www.5safepoints.com/ is a terrible website because there are way to many adverts on the website. This is very distracting and unnecessary. http://www.angelfire.com/super/badwebs/ is a terrible website because it is not organized at all. it is just a compilation of random facts, with lots of colours so that it confuses you. http://www.dokimos.org/ajff/ is a terrible website because it is so bright that you get lost and you cant find what your looking for. Also most people looking at this would think that if they did click on anything they would get a virus.

Task 2:) Do you know a well designed web site? Find 3 well designed websites, take a screenshot of the front page and then annotate (label) the design features. Explain why it is a cool site. http://kylesteed.com/ is a well designed web site.

The first well designed element is that this website is visually appealing without being over the top. The second well designed element is that this website is clear and easy to navigate around. The third well designed element is that the links are very user friendly and also creative so that they pull you in.

http://www.gerrenlamson.com/index.htm is also a well designed website.

The first well designed element is that you can see immediately whos eportfolio this is because the name is in the corner in bold. The second well designed element is that when you click on the different pages in the upper right corner the picture at the top, that currently says WORK changes. The third well designed element is that the colours are all complementary colours so they work well together.

http://www.christhurman.com/ is also a very well designed website

This is personally my favorite website because it is the most user friendly website ever made. You can either scroll down and go through all of his different pages or you could have clicked one of the links at the top and would scroll down to that section of his website. Another well designed element of this website is that it is visually appealing also when you scroll down to different pages he has all sorts of links and very user friendly buttons with an arrow that says click here for... Also I believe another well designed element of this website is that with the change in fonts it looks good.

Task 3: Answer these questions: What is the purpose of student portfolios? The purpose of a student portfolio is for a student to be able to put all of his/ her work together so that it is in one place. This can help make the student much more organized with their work. What is an e-portfolio? E-portfolio stands for electronic portfolio. The purpose of an e-portfolio is to put all of your work in one area, that is easy to navigate and very easy to find what youre looking for. What are the advantages / disadvantages of e-portfolios vs traditional portfolios? The advantages of an e-portfolio are that it will always be there. Also you cant lose any of your stuff unless you delete it purposefully. Some disadvantages are that you may have to scan some documents to put them online. Who will read your portfolio? In the future many people will read my e-portfolio. If I were to apply to Yale for university then they will be able to look over my work and also they will be able to set me apart from others which means I will have a higher chance of getting in. The same idea for a potential employer.

Now, do a search to find 3 successful e-portfolio's and analyse them. Justify your choice by: Identifying the purpose of the e-portfolio; Explaining the design of the portfolio in relation to the purpose of the E-Portfolio (ease of navigation, visually appealing, content, language style, etc. ) Explaining why you think this is a successful E-Portfolio

Task 5: Present in design specification all the requirements your e-portfolio needs to meet. Essentials (must have) Function (navigation through site and accessibility to information) Structure (how it is organised) Style (colors, images, etc.) - A home button. - A clear button for each section. - Must have pages for each subject. - Must have categories. - A nice background image. Desirable (would be nice to have) - Professional looking buttons. - Very obvious navigation controls. - Changes the background image with each different page
